Andrew Marvell’s “To His Coy Mistress” delivers a story of the speaker (main character) actions and words of love, and how much he is in love with the Mistress (the deuteragonist). The story seems to let the reader view the main character as a lovesick man wanting to show all the love he has for the mistress by taking her virginity to complete their love bond, yet the way the speaker went about his love shows another side of his character to the readers who pay close attention to his action and use of words. The main character shows signs as being an obsessive, manipulative, incomplete man who uses seduction to get what he wants from his mistress who is seen as the innocence in the Speaker 's madness obsession of sex “To Coy His Mistress” was published after Marvell’s death during the sixteenth - century in England. The author does give the poem a theme (message) which can be examined from the title of the poem “To His Coy Mistress” . The title can conjecture that the Speaker wants to be honest to the mistress “To His Coy Mistress” relating to the fact that the she is “To His” (Marvell) ,which bring out his possessive dominant personality to control or have. “Coy Mistress” (Marvell) bringing up a fact about the character the Mistress revealing that she is coy, shy , honest , modest and or more innocent than the Speaker’s personality
