Sasaki is given the worst fate after the blast; she was injured but not injured enough, she wasn’t taken care of by any doctors and received no sympathies. Her fiancé leaves her and her body is physically altered for the worse. She represents the millions of stories we don’t know such as the women who was desperately looking for her husband when her baby died, or the other two people stuck in the tent for two days with her. Sasaki reminds us that al decision we make have consequences and affect more lives that we can imagine. She however, goes through a total life change when she meets father Kliensorge. He convinces her to convert to Catholicism and on the 25th anniversary of the blast she becomes a nun. Sasaki and Kliensorge show us how influential a stranger could be on your life. Father Kliensorge completely changes her view on life. Even though they are from two completely different worlds they connect and Kliensorge impacts her life. It reminded me of my grandparents and of other people I met while in Sri Lanka, even though we’re world away and don’t have similar cultures we still find a way to connect. The impact that her story made on me is ineffable, her unshakable pessimism and depression is something I can relate to but, so is her life turning around with the help of the kindness of strangers. Kliensorge never abandoned even though she was draining to be around and wanted to be left alone. He was her one source of light and he realized his importance in her
