Book Report- Hiroshima
The incredible non-fiction book, Hiroshima, written and brought to life by John Hersey in 1946, discusses the truths of the attack and the long-lasting devastation, tragedy, and utter destruction caused by the United States atomic bomb dropping on the Japanese city, Hiroshima. Hersey’s primary intentions for writing the book were to provide a captivating, informative, and emotional narrative of the disaster that resulted from the bomb and give readers a grasp of how it greatly effected so many innocent people. This eye-opening book specifically looks into the lives of six different and unique survivors. Furthermore, the story dives into the horrifying details of the immediate and long-term hardships faced by these victims resulting from the catastrophic uranium atomic bomb that was dropped in their city on the morning of August 6, 1945.

History generally differentiates between many individual’s scattered opinions based on how they were involved, the effects it had on them, and overall how they directly perceived it. John Hersey brought a new perspective to this specific historical event through his book, because in our United States History courses, students are often shielded from the obliteration that our country brought upon many innocent people in Hiroshima.
