Hiroshima and Nagasaki Bombings
In the year of 1945 on August 6th, the bombings of both Hiroshima and Nagasaki changed warfare around the world forever. Atomic warfare had never been heard of before that day, and it changed many countries outlooks on war strategics. The bombs that were dropped on both cities were extremely new to both America and Japan, which caused mass devastation. Although the bombing of Hiroshima resulted in many Japanese casualties, ultimately the bombings of both Hiroshima and Nagasaki were justified, saved many American lives, and ended World War II quickly.

President Harry Truman informed the world that a bomb had been dropped on the Japanese city of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. Certainly the power of both bombs was understood to be devastating and some deemed it to be an unnecessary act including President Truman who stated, “it was the most terrible thing ever discovered,” (Grant 24). The decision to use this new weapon was not an easy decision according to Truman who was indecisive about dropping them. Knowing that both bombs would work, his decision was made to end the war quickly and with as few American casualties as possible. The sudden rise in population growth caused shortages of food and shelter. Many survivors of the bombings faced death from starvation and illness from exposure of radiation (Grant 38). However, as early as December of 1945, a council was sent to regulate the distribution of lumber, nails, glass panes, charcoal, and heating devices. The council also dealt with issues such as caring for orphans, community bathhouses, and use of warehouses. Food scarcity became a big problem in the summer of 1946 that caused an evacuation of 50,000
