Hironao Jacob Suzuki, my father, was born in Tsuruoka city in Yamagata prefecture, Japan. He chose to move to America because it was the most powerful/advanced nation, and it was the “leader” of all the nations. He came to America with other members in his church in Japan. The church was international so there was also church members in many other countries. He joined the church when he was only eighteen and he is still currently in the church with my family. In preparation before coming to America, my dad asked for a loan from his parents but they refused so then he tried to fundraise for some money but he was not successful. It ended up not being difficult for my dad to get the money to come to America because a manufacturing company run by the church helped him out. It was easy for him to get a citizenship in America but it took him a long time. My dad’s goal was to contribute to the church on an international level, have a nice family, and make lots of nice friends. …show more content…
The American members were not committed to the church. They would not fundraise and they would spend a lot of money by buying new cars and such. The Japanese members would fundraise everyday and save their money(similar to the Chinese’s relationship with Americans). There was also a language problem so there was a lot of miscommunication. Because of the language barrier, they did not communicate enough too, so they divided between Japanese members and American members. It was challenging for my dad to adjust to the American language. Also, he thought it was difficult to understand America’s entertainment aspects. He could not understand jokes in movies and he tried to learn about pop culture (singers,
