Everyone who is apart of the Spirit Squad is eligible to receive tuition and fee waivers. The academic requirements for cheerleading at SIU are cheerleaders must maintain a 2.2 GPA and must attend all classes unless there is a Southern Illinois University Carbondale sanctioned event (“Southern Illinois University”). The SIU Carbondale Cheerleading and Mascot Policy of 2015-2016 says, “Southern Illinois University Carbondale Cheerleaders are ultimately students first and athletes second. Up ‘til Dawn is a student-led organization and is a nation-wide organization. The goal of Up ‘til Dawn is to end childhood cancer for good.
