The large semi- Aquatic mammal known as the hippopotamus travels in groups of about ten to thirty with one dominant male called a bull and can be found in the rivers and lakes across Sub-Saharan Africa close to grasslands for easy access to the its main food resource, grass. The temperatures of the areas that the hippopotamus occupies are on average 25°C reaching lows of about 18°C and highs of about 30°C. Occasionally, hippopotamuses can be found sleeping on mud banks, grouped closely together; in contrast to the typical water bodies that hippopotamuses sleep their days in.
