Character/s: Hippolyta, Theseus.
Section of play: Before the play begins when Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons, is introduced to Theseus, the Duke of Athens.

The order was given decisively and received without dissent.
“Attack!”
The Amazon tribe charged toward the Athenian hoplites with a collective roar that vibrated through the air. Tall spears that ended in long, leaf-shaped iron blades and bronze shields met swords in a frenzied ambush.
Soldiers swarmed the majestic terrain of Athens with its monuments proudly presented on unforgiving hills. Not even an arm’s length could be measured between the two armies as they crunched together and their …show more content…
The warrior Queen had been hit.
The world around her began to slant as Hippolyta collapsed onto the dirt in a crumpled heap, the wind knocked from her. She was dimly aware of the roar of the soldiers fighting in a cloud of dust as a wave of sharp pain threatened her.
Hippolyta’s eyes fluttered open and the soldier ripped off his helmet to reveal a dirt-swiped, angular face, concerned brown eyes and floppy brown hair. He leaned over her, breathing heavily.
“Are you okay?”
A considerate hand reached out and, against her better judgement, Hippolyta gingerly clutched it to sit up. She gazed at the figure standing in front of her. The sun shone behind him, giving him an ethereal quality.
The pain of the attack jolted her back to reality. Hippolyta peered down to inspect her injured leg and covered it with her hand. “Oh…I think so…” Her dry voice trailed off.
The soldier kneeled and Hippolyta looked up. They stared into each other’s eyes, oblivious to the war zone around them.
He suddenly grinned at her, a lock of hair falling into his eyes. “Theseus. Duke of Athens.”
Dizziness set in as she returned the gesture. “Hippolyta. Your enemy.”
Their grins widened. The course of true love never did run
