The hip flexor contains seven main muscles, two of the muscles are Iliacus and the Psoas Major (found in the abdomen). They are more commonly referred as the Iliopsoas. The Iliacus operates on the pelvic crest and goes all the way to the femur. The third main muscle is the Sartorius goes down the thigh in the anterior compartment. Four out of seven is the Vastus Rectus or the Rectus Femoris, is one of the four quadriceps muscles of the human body. Fifth muscle is rectus femoris is situated in the middle of the front of the thigh. Its functions are to flex the thigh at the hip joint and to extend the leg at the knee joint. In the human body, the adductor longus is a skeletal muscle located in the thigh. One of the adductor muscles of the hip flexor, its main function is to adduct the thigh. It forms the medial wall of the femoral triangle. Second to last muscle in the hip flexor area adductor brevis is a muscle in the thigh situated immediately deep to the pectineus and adductor longus. It is put into the adductor muscle group. The main function of the adductor brevis is to pull the thigh. The last and finally muscle is the pectineus muscle quadrangular muscle, situated at the anterior part of the upper and medial aspect of the thigh. Other factors that can lead to hip flexor strain may include: Weak muscles Not warming up Stiff muscles or falling. Mild pain and pulling in the front of the hip. Cramping and sharp pain. It may be hard to walk without limping. Severe pain, spasms, bruising, and swelling. The top of the thigh muscle may budge. It will be hard to walk. These are signs of a complete tear, which is less common. You may have some bruising down the front of your thigh a few days after injury. When you do over stretch or even tear your hip flexor it's important to do R.I.C.E. R.I.C.E is a synonym for rest, ice, compression ,and elevate. When you hurt your hip flexor you want to not run or do high impact activities. Putting ice, icy hot or tiger balm is a good way to relieve the pain and help it heal but most people will do ice. Taping is a good way to heal it prevents you from moving and hurting your hip flexor even more. When you have finally heal from your injury, you need to get that mobility back.
