To make a case for a new Hip Hop Information Literacy course a personal assessment of the university culture was recorded during my first year on campus. The quantitative measurements as a faculty member were conjured from an ACRL Assessment in Action Project Institutional Profile, a collaborative project completed with university faculty members and students ((ACRL), 2015-2016). The qualitative information was based off observational experiences in the general information literacy course offering that I taught the first semester in the library. The following information provided below are details recorded to help facilitate the creation of the course. Students are not required to take an Information literacy course when they enroll as freshmen at this institution. With enrollment under 5,000, it made sense to step into a new realm and create an engaging collaborative environment for learning in the library.
