Hip-Hop has Changed the World “Music can change the world because it can change people.” (Bono) Hip-hop first started in the 1970s in the neighborhoods of the New York City Bronx. It immediately became a huge movement in African American culture and soon affected people from all over the world. It spread from one city to many in a matter of months, from movies to music videos, hip-hop was everywhere. It was a statement, a voice for African Americans to speak up against civil rights. Hip-hop allows others to express themselves and connect with others no matter what their differences are. As said before hip-hop was a cry to stop slavery and racism, it helped African Americans express what they were feeling. As times have changed hip-hop focuses more on whatever message the artist or anyone else wants to get out. Whether you are the artist who sings the song, the writer who writes the song, or the listener who listens to the song, everyone is expressing themselves each in a different way. The performer is expressing themselves through the way they interact with their audience and if they wrote it, with the words they sing. “The greatest impact of hip-hop culture is perhaps its ability to bring people of all different beliefs, cultures, races, and ethnicities together as a medium for young (and now middle-aged) people to express themselves in a self-determined manner, both individually and collectively” (Price). Hip-hop and mainly any type of music is an outlet for people 's emotions. It is a way for people to express themselves in all ways. Hip-hop speaks up for people when they can 't speak up for themselves. It is a great outlet to allow others to say what they believe. Hip-hop helps people express themselves whether it 's through their clothes, language, or actions. The fashion industry follows musics every move and hip-hop has had the most effect on it changing the business forever. It also transforms our language into something that we can all connect with and understand. Lastly it mainly helps us come together as a community, express ourselves, and fight for what we believe in. All these things tie back into American society by bringing us together as a community in everything we do.
