each person went through something different, regardless of that each person similarities within those situations brought them closer together. One of the youngest clown dancers was shot as a result of a drive by shooting. One dancer parents were in jail, another one was out in the streets. Dancing saved each and every one of their lives. Relating this to class, dancing again has given me the same outlet it once has. Yes of course, I dance all the time with my best friend Aliyah Gray and that helps me, but just going full out inside a routine gives me the confidence I once have. In class, we do hip hop dancing, mainly, it relates to them as well because dance is an outlet for them to express themselves as well. Also, the dancing we do it wasn’t easy for us, when they started out clowning it was hard for them. Thomas encouraged them to move outside the group and start on their own thing. When you are Krumping you are going back to the style of ritualistic dancing our ancestors once did. It is a free expression, energetic, and an overemphasized form of dancing. Most people just do things and add to this type of dance. There is a lot of contact with the person you are battling against as well, the only difference is that nobody gets upset from this contact. You can basically do anything when it comes to Krumping and it flows all together. With this dance you aren’t able to be right or wrong, you just dance, no matter if you can dance or not.
