Hip Abduction Test

Improved Essays
Sit and reach test was a test to see how flexible your hamstrings are. You had to sit with you feet flat against a board and try and push the measuring scale to see how far you can reach. This test was a really rough test for me. I have always had really bad hamstrings and sense I can remember I have never been able to touch my toes. However, I was not expecting such a lousy score. I got a whooping 17 cm, which is beyond pathetic considering the needs improvement scale is below 24 cm and good is 29-33 cm.

The hip abduction test is where you have to stand straight up on one leg at a time while trying to lift the other leg to your side. My hip abduction is very good on both legs for a male though. I can easily go past the average 45-50 degree

240i Precor stretch machine is for a laboratory based test which is performed under controlled conditions indoors and the sit and reach test is a field based tests though it can be performed indoors too. When testing the validity of the sit and reach test it is hard to be accurate with the results because other factors such as the measurement or the individual’s arm length can play a vital role when it comes to the validity. If the performer isn’t able to get the same results when performing the same test then the validity of the results is not accurate, where as if we were testing the validity and accuracy of the stretch machine, it is easy to get accurate results as the factors are controlled and the results are measured using the mechanism, if the performer gets the same results are the first time they then the reliability of the test is good. Compared to the sit and reach test the Precor stretch machine takes longer so it wouldn’t be ideal for an individual that doesn’t have a lot of time to perform the test, but with the sit and reach they can perform it in less than 5 minutes which is more ideal.…

The waist circumference will be measured by finding the right ilium and marking the site at the mid-axillary plane (CDC, 2007). Using measuring tape, one will measure the circumference from the right ilium around to the left ilium. The tape will remain parallel to the floor, and it will not compress the skin. The waist-hip ratio will be calculated by taking the value from the waist circumference measurement and dividing it by the measurement of the hip circumference. The hip circumference will be measured twice by using measuring tape around the largest circumference of the buttocks while maintaining the tape parallel to the floor (World Health Organization, 2011).…

Both the propulsion technique of the manual wheelchair user and the wheelchair design and setup have major effects on the biomechanics of the user-wheelchair system. Despite major improvements in technology, propulsion technique is still not very well understood. It can stated, however, that three basic qualities of the user-wheelchair system determine the performance: the user, who produces the energy for propulsion, the vehicle mechanics of the wheelchair, which determine power requirements to move forward or backward, and the wheelchair-user interaction, which determines the efficiency of the power or force transfer from the user to the wheelchair (Woude, 2001). Propulsion technique is highly dependent upon the type of wheelchair used…
