Hinson's Response Letter

Dear, Hinson
I would like to bring it to your concern of your behavior at school recently and the way you are bringing negative attention to our school. You are a early collage student who does not seem to have the potential and maturity that of which you agreed to be the day you took the chance to attend and become part of this school, I believe you shouldn't disrupt class and get others involved into your problems. I have noticed that you only want attention because you think disruptions and cheating on test makes you cool because you act in such a immature way. This has gotten out of hand and it is starting to affect me and I find it very hard to believe I was your friend by the way you act now. I think it is time for you to grow up and

Evelyn Brooks Higginbotham’s Righteous Discontent chapters and Jacqueline Jones’ Labor of Love, Labor of Sorrow chapters each share themes about gender and the role of black women. In chapter two of Righteous Discontent, Higginbotham discusses how women entered the education system and how women became more than just mothers but were teachers and nurses as well. According to Higginbotham, the illiteracy rate among Southern African Americans was 95 percent (19). Eventually, though, both black men and women were allowed to go to school – women’s education was the main focus in this chapter, however. African American women were embraced by the education system because many church leaders believed that women should be more than just housewives…

In a letter to him, Abigal Adams writes to advise her son, John Quincy Adams, of the benefits that may be reaped from his reluctant voyage to France with John Adams and his brother. Abigal Adams primarily utilizes her maternal influence over her son to rhetorically enforce her statements. Adams also appeals to her son’s ego by stressing how his intellectual and diplomatic capabilities, while already vast, could be greatly broadened by these worldly experiences. Adams begins her letter by first establishing herself as more capable of predicting what opportunities would be good for John Quincy Adams. With the line “If I thought… or that you were capable of judging what was most for your own benefit…” Adams suggests that her son is not as able…

After reading the Willie Lynch letter, I found his theory fascinating. When I say fascinating I don’t mean that in a good way. The fact that he came up was able to come up with a whole system for controlling his slaves proves to you that he was a very intelligent man. However, the only reason why his system was so successful was due to the fact that slaves weren’t allowed any access to education. I guarantee you if African American were allowed the right to read or any type of access to education like Caucasians at the time, then his system for controlling them would have been ineffective.…

John Hickman, a Democratic member of the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania, spoke in 1859 to the Independent Democratic Convention regarding sectional conflict in the United States. In Hickman’s famous speech supporting the war, he stated, “There is an eternal antagonism between freedom and slavery.--The constitution of the human mind and the human heart makes it inevitable; and the one or the other must eventually gain the ascendancy,” (VS). The increasingly divergent social and economic positions of the North and South eliminated the possibility of an effective compromise. The Civil War became inevitable as domestic tensions over westward expansion reached a zenith in the 19th century. As Hickman stated, two societies with opposing…

John Reed is against invading Mexico because he does not see a need to invade an alien country and race only to force our own countries problems on top of their own. Throughout his article reed describes his experiences while researching the people of Mexico and the war from their side of the border. Reed argues against many assumptions made from the American people about Mexicans being war hungry, uncivilized, uncleanly, poor, ruffians. Reed mentions how many of the Mexicans fighting in the poor are in the lower class and are fighting either because it is better than working in the mines or the fields or because they want their land, which was wrongfully taken from them returned.…

I founded it very difficult to finish reading this letter from Willie Lynch. The way in which he explains how slaves need to be treated. His humiliating program to control those individuals from escaping and the techniques to be used were envy, fear, and distrust. Up until now, I could not believe there was a letter with so many degrading ideas to punish and control human beings. In this letter he expressed that his purpose was to destroy people from the African community for hundreds of years.…

Drugs are widely used around the world and continues to be a huge issue. Many philosophers debate on the effects of making drugs legal. Some say that the forbidden fruit effect helps reduce the urge of doing drugs; however, Wilson believes that an increase of supply at a lower price will increase the amount of people taking these drugs. In addition, many argue that if drugs are not allowed then alcohol should be prohibited as well. This brings up many questions and the philosophers seem to have a few answers.…

n this undated letter, written at the request of Jeremy Belknap, corresponding secretary of the Massachusetts Historical Society, Paul Revere summarizes his activities on 18-19 April 1775: he recounts how Dr. Joseph Warren urged him to ride to Lexington (to warn John Hancock and Samuel Adams of British troop movements); how he had previously arranged with some fellow Patriots to signal the direction of those movements by placing signal lanterns in the steeple of Old North Church; and how he left Boston from the "North part of the Town," was rowed across the Charles River by two friends, and there borrowed a horse and began his ride. The manuscript letter includes some interlineations, apparently in the hand of Jeremy Belknap. In printing the account in Collections of the Massachusetts Historical Society, 1st series, vol. 5 (1798), Belknap assigned to it the date of 1 January 1798. At the end of the document, Revere signed his name but then, apparently choosing to remain anonymous, wrote…
