Hing-Su And Rn Star Sticker

Decent Essays
As illustrated in this case, Mrs. Sims uses star stickers as a concrete reinforcer in an effort to promote positive responses from her students. On one occasion, Hing-su and Ryan are at the whiteboard solving a math problem. Hing-su answers the question correctly and as a result, he received both verbal affirmation (social reinforcer) and a purple star (positive reinforcer). Unfortunately, Ryan did not receive a star because his answer was incorrect (negative reinforcer). However, Mrs. Sims asked Teresa to solve the problem, which she did correctly and she received the star. This type of reinforcement seems ineffective and socially unsound. Since Ryan answered the problem incorrectly, he most likely felt embarrassed in front of his peers and

I represented Mr. Shatner in this week’s simulation. The first thing we talked about in our negotiation was how many characters from Star Track would be in the play. My original strategy was to inform the theater that Mr. Shatner did not want any members from the Star Track franchise to be in the play. However, the theater informed me that there had to be some characters from Star Track in order for the play to be successful. The theater then asked me why I did not want characters from Star Track in the play.…

In The Big Bang Theory clip, Sheldon’s approach to modifying behavior portrays examples experienced in our homes and workplace on a frequent basis. Whether the attempt is positive or negative reinforcement, there are various examples where parents, teachers, and employers utilize these tactics to change behavior. A great example I can share from work is: A patient I work with has displayed undesirable behaviors because she wanted a soda on command. A plan was put in place to decrease the patient's undesirable behaviors and to reward the patient with a soda over time if the patient waits in intervals starting with 15 minutes then changed to 30 minutes and then to a set time every day. Since a plan to teach patience has been implemented into her treatment plan, her behavior to be patient for a soda has increased tremendously her undesirable behaviors have decreased. This was considered a positive reinforcement for this patient and her goal was exceeded to patiently wait for a soda.…

I agree with the author. Schools and parents should help students to understand that they have to work hard to deserve getting rewards. Giving children regular reward is not motivating them because children will understand that they do not have to work hard anymore. Ashely Merryman said that children will not worry about improving themselves anymore because they know that their schools will naturally give them all rewards. That is true.…

Therefore, the teacher must keep in mind the negative behavior that cannot occur the same time as the positive behavior. One example of finding the incompatibility of behavior is sitting at the desk vs. wandering in the classroom. When the student is reinforced of the positive behavior they are supposed to be doing at the given time, they will have a positive behavior to act upon replacing the negative behavior. It is also important to know the student and take notes of the types of reinforcement inadvertently received when ding the problem behavior. Hence, it is like trial and error to figuring out what kind of reinforcement would work best for the student to achieve the desired…

Application in Education Similarities and Differences Just as there are differences and similarities between Skinner and Pavlov’s theories, the same could be observed when applying their theories to education. As for the first similarity, both theories involve the process of pairing (Lee, 2005). Pavlov’s classical conditioning involves pairing a neutral stimulus with an unconditioned stimulus to create an unconditioned response. When this pairing is demonstrated multiple times the desired behavior becomes the conditioned response. Pavlov would exemplify this process in education.…
