Hinduism Reflection Paper

For this paper I chose to interview 3 people that practice different faiths, since I do not have any specific faith in any particular religion. I interviewed one who is a member of the Church of Latter Day Saints, another who is an active Christian (non-denominational), and also one who believes in Hinduism. Although I did ask some specific questions, all three were very open about their beliefs, and had a lot to tell me without me having to ask too much. I first spoke with an active Christian, who stated that although he grew up in a religious household, it wasn’t until 6 years ago that he was “saved” by Jesus Christ. He started off by telling me that Hinduism is one of the oldest religions around, which I gathered, is a reason for his belief in it over other religions. I asked him, like the others, what is a misconception regarding his religion, and he told me about the many gods they have, that people believe are gods equivalent to the one supreme being. He explained that they believe in only one supreme entity, but they don’t call it “God”. The many gods they refer to actually represent different aspects of that one supreme entity. They also believe that we come into this world we are pure and it’s the “ignorance’s” from the world that corrupt us, so to practice Hinduism is to attempt to find enlightenment through prayer. One is that they believe the Protestant church “fell away” from the original words of Jesus, and it was Joseph Smith, a profit in the 1800’s, who was called upon to restore the original church of Jesus Christ. It’s also believed that people who followed Jesus Christ came to the America’s, but began to fall away from the original beliefs, so profits in the America’s got a message from Jesus Christ to spread that word again throughout the America’s. One thing he mentioned about how his religion differs, is they believe God is one being, unlike the belief from other Christian religions, that believe The Father, The Son, and The Holy Ghost are 3 different beings. He ended our discussion by letting me know that LDS community believe that no matter what religion you believe in you will still be saved when the time comes because God loves
