The different types of Hindu yoga are Hatha yoga, Jnana yoga, Karma yoga, Bhakti yoga, and Raja yoga. Hatha yoga is the basic yoga that has become popular in the western culture. This type of yoga requires no prior knowledge or experience because this yoga is the base for all the other yoga. Hatha yoga goal is to release psychi energy to allow free energy circulation. This involved you to hold your posture, do stretching exercise, and breathing exercises to stay focus and relax. The next yoga is Jnana yoga; in this yoga, it is all about learning and studying Hindu sacred text to achieve spiritual enlightenment. The Hindu caste systems are the Brahmins (priests and philosophers), Kshatriyas (nobility and warriors), Vaishyas (merchants, farmers, specialized labors), Shudras (manual laborers), and untouchable. You are not stuck in any caste system but it is determined by your past life and present life karma. In western culture, the saying goes like “what goes around comes around in 3 fold”. That saying reflects the idea of Hindu karma. The cycle of birth and death will continue until we reach moksha. Moksha means you have reached enlightenment and broken the cycle and no longer have to endure death and birth again. Anyone can reach moksha as long as they continue to repent of their bad karma such as selfishness, greed, and harming others. Through Karma yoga, you can practice selfless action to increase your good karma and get rid of your bad karma. Karma yoga focuses on helping people reach moksha. When meditating you can focus on your breathing just as in Hatha yoga or you can chant just as in Bhakti yoga.
