Hills like White Elephants Men and women are built for each other, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have any difference. In fact men and women have a lot of differences in just how they communicate. In the short story “Hills like White Elephants” is a good source behind this topic. It also connects with the story “Hills like White Elephant.” In this short story there is an American man and his foreign girlfriend who were at a train station waiting for their train to arrive. While they sat there conversing she begin to look over into the hills which sat in the sun and referred to them as “White Elephants”, her reason for saying this is because the hills sat in the sun while the country looked brown and dry and through the trees to her the hills looked like white elephants. The couple sat and chatted while drinking alcoholic beverages. This story focuses on a conversation between a man and his girlfriend about her getting an “Operation” done, or in other words a abortion. He told her that if she didn’t want to go through with it then she didn’t have to but it would be quite simple if she did. She told him that if she did then it would make him happy. The two of them sat and tried to figure it all out on how their new life would be and the fact that their current activities and lifestyle would start to change. The main topic in this story would be the “Operation” that the man is trying to get his girlfriend to get. The moral of the story is that in most relationships communication is often avoided because of the imbalance of power
