It’s the end of the most bitter and divisive campaign in the history of the United States. The country has never witnessed a political campaign of this nature where disrespectful speeches and unethical language has been used with such impunity. On the 9th day of November 2016, America elected its new president-designate in the form of the Donald Trump and social media was abuzz with the shocking news. A man whose entire election campaign was marred with offensive remarks, in most of his speeches, has won the race for the White House. A man with no political capital and experience was pitched against a lady who has been at the helm of the US government and served in the administration for more than 30 years. He spoke about how the nation owes gratitude towards Hillary Clinton for what she has done for the US. He refrained from using derogatory language against the former First Lady and there was no talk of getting her arrested. He appealed to the people to unite and rise above their differences. On the other hand, Hillary humbly conceded the defeat. Moreover, Obama was very gracious at the White House and talked about a smooth transition of power. There was a lot of professionalism and respect for each other amongst the President and the President-elect at their first meeting after the electoral results.
Further, post elections a few major developments were, the statement on the ban on Muslims was removed from Trump’s website. Additionally, the President-elect in his speech emphasised that he will be the President for each and every American. The global markets were initially volatile and Asian markets have recovered strongly. There has been no untoward incident from 9/11 to 12/11 that is the three-day period following the elections which is quite pleasing to
