After the first question was asked, Hillary had the chance to answer. But instead of answering about whether she is a good role model for students of not, she goes on to talk about how important it is to make sure that the children know how good of a country the live in and how fortunate they are. By doing this she uses red herring, avoiding the question, and goes off on her own still making herself sound convincing. Also, Donald Trump uses these strategies. During the debate one of the times that Trump and Clinton are trying to make each other's character look bad, Trump brings up Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton's wife to make her look bad. By doing this he is using ad hominem by association. By using ad hominem, attacking one's character to undermine their argument, Trump is able to make Clinton's character look bad. They both make it more than clear that in order to run this country, a person needs to have good character. They try to hide the flaws in their character by focusing on the other and what they plan on doing if they become the president. When a question would be aimed at them they would expertly steer clear from it and try to turn their argument onto the opposing side. While both candidates are only trying to win the votes of the American citizens, they are also trying to make connections with people.
