You join clubs, make friends, and stand with them. High School is learning that all the cliquey garbage on TV is mostly myth. Unlike all the sitcoms may have lead you to believe, nobody’s out to get you, and there’s no nuanced social hierarchy, like I was expecting to see, when I was younger. Instead I made some friends, sat down at whichever table during lunch, and played cards. I’ve made some friends that I can rely on, and they can rely on me. All the tropes, with the Jocks vs Nerds, popularity, and what have you, are simply not real. You’ll have a lot to worry about during your four years. High School is having teachers that don’t know or don’t care how busy you already are. Some nights sophomore year, every class would give homework on the same night. High School is worrying about that project that’s due. Whether it’s a month or a day, that lingering feeling never leaves you. Sometimes even after you’ve finished it still hangs around. High School is worrying about the “what ifs” When was this due, or will I have time to get all this done. I’ve spent many a tired night working at the eleventh hour, admittedly often due to my own poor planning skills, but never without there already being a heavy workload. It’s not all bad though. You can get done either by careful planning, efficient use of time, clever improvisation, sheer force of determination, or some
