Vincent Canby once said “Good fiction reveals feeling,refines events, locates importance and, though it's methods are mysterious as they are varied, intensifies the experience of living our lives” While non-fiction books deal with things that have actually occurred, fiction books allow us to go in depth of what is being read and journey into a greater world and find the deeper meaning along with looking for issues that have occurred within society.The novel “Highly Illogical Behavior” by John Corey Whaley deals with a kid named Solomon Reed, who suffers from agoraphobia which causes him to get panic attacks when he leaves the house. Just as in fiction books the author alters the ending to appeal to their liking because they are writing their own story.The author of the article states “Many people experience anxiety, but the way a person interprets anxiety can greatly affect behavior. Those who suffer from anxiety disorders respond to fear and dread in ways that are disproportionate to the circumstance. These feelings are sometimes accompanied by excessive sweating or rapid heart rate and include panic attacks, flashbacks, nightmares, and obsessive thoughts.” (paragraph 2). Those who suffer from mental illness develop behavioral issues and it effects their mind and causes them to act hostile toward others. The mental health issue that causes most difficulty with social interaction is anxiety. This illness causes them to separate from others and in the end become detached from society. Because Solomon has anxiety at times he does feel alone but he also knows that the longer he feels this way the more time he will stay inside so he knows that he needs to change his ending. When Solomon has his first panic attack in front of Lisa it shows that she is understanding of his mental state and she feels compassion towards him by helping him through it.Often times people with anxiety feel that no one comprehends the true insignificance the illness has on their life. Lisa knew that she needed to take actions into her own hands if Solomon was going to get back to his original state so she sits with him and counts to ten. Solomon eventually calms down and realizes the amount of kindness in Lisa heart. By reading this book it teaches people what to do in a actual situation even though the novel is fiction. Although many people can get panic attacks those with anxiety receive them more often.
