The Higher Education Opportunity Act which was then Higher Education Act was first legislation signed into the United States law on November 8, 1965, as one of President Lyndon Johnson’s agenda. Texas University, which was then Southwest Texas College was chosen as the signing site. The Act has been reauthorized up to ten times and the current authorization expired in 2013, however, in 2015 the congress has amended the act to revise the programs.
The main purpose of the Act is to cover in detail the accreditations, college cost, student financial aid, student loans, disclosures and compliance provisions, teacher professional development and international education.
