The Federal role in education system was establishes as a need only aspect of the education system, to provide relief and support when there is a state of emergency (Federal Role, 2010.) The federal government established the Department of Education in 1867. Operating under the Executive Branch the job of the Department of Education’s is to gather data on public schools and different types of instruction that would assist States in establishing high performing schools. The federal government is responsible for implementing most of the historic legislation that has impacted the evolution of the U.S. public schools, some of these historic milestones include; 1) The “Separation of Church State Debate:, which begins with the Constitution, specifically the first amendment and the interpretation of the “separation of church and state” clause, which continues to be the foundation of many debates and also plays a big part in curriculum that is taught in public …show more content…
Unfortunately the states have a hard time achieving this goal and the Federal government has to step in and create laws that will help bringing these goals to fruition. Eventually the Federal government’s role will increase tremendously from the description in the intro, and this change is long overdue. Currently the US public school system is in turmoil and the historically the only times we have seen significant advancement in the school system is when the Federal government steps in.
