If a student has a clear idea of what they want to do in the future they pursue an internship in that field. In the event that this happens, the student will either enjoy the work they do or they won’t. In the case of the former, the student gains experience relevant to the job they want and confirms that this is, in fact, the future they desire. The internship will also show the skills that they possess that are relevant as well as the skills needing development or refinement prior to working in that field. Alternatively, they learn how poorly the job fits and learn to find a different future before spending a large amount of money on the career they thought they would enjoy.
