High Tech High Chula Vist Student Internship Analysis

At High Tech High Chula Vista, juniors participate in academic internships. The main reason this is done is because it gives students an insight into what the workforce is like. Students are given four weeks to acclimate and see what skills they have that can be used in the real world. While this is the main reason given, the main benefit is actually the information a student can learn about themselves and their talents. From learning to guide tours to designing in a CAD program, an internship shows the student what the workforce needs from them.

If a student has a clear idea of what they want to do in the future they pursue an internship in that field. In the event that this happens, the student will either enjoy the work they do or they won’t. In the case of the former, the student gains experience relevant to the job they want and confirms that this is, in fact, the future they desire. The internship will also show the skills that they possess that are relevant as well as the skills needing development or refinement prior to working in that field. Alternatively, they learn how poorly the job fits and learn to find a different future before spending a large amount of money on the career they thought they would enjoy.
