High Stress Environments For Nurses

Finally, high stress environments can cause nurses to become overwhelmed and mentally exhausted. Within a 12-hour shift they have to be in charge of a lot of different things. They have to make sure that their patients are comfortable, give their patients medications, follow the doctors’ orders, assist in procedures, and more. It is easy for a nurse to feel overwhelmed especially when a hospital is short staffed. A hospital setting can be fast paced; nurses have to learn how to adapt to these high stress environments. They are dealing with people’s lives, so they have pay attention to every single detail. When a nurse is feeling overwhelmed and rushed, mistakes can happen. Each patient has a call light that they use when they need something. It’s the nurse’s responsibility to check on that patient no matter what. Nurses can have multiple call lights going off at once. It’s easy to feel rushed when this is happening. Nurses need to learn how to manage their time and focus on what they are doing when they are doing it. If they are doing something they need to focus and do it properly and precisely before they move on to the next thing.
