The first few weeks of school can be categorized as incredibly hectic. Getting adjusted to new classes, teachers, students, and schedules are an awkward process that takes a while to comfortably transition into. Students who have issues with their schedules seek help immediately from the counselors. In the constant stress of rushing to improve our student schedules, we never stop to consider the heavy workload we put on our CHHS counselors. At the beginning of school, hundreds of students pour in with concerns, and only a hand full of people are assigned to deal with the heavy load. In their offices and all around school they meet with us throughout the day. Most try to accommodate us, although there are times that disagreements can occur.

When I first started university, I had to go to an advising session; while, I do not remember what it was about, The one thing that managed to grab my attention was when the advisor said “I can spot a freshman a mile away” when someone asked her how, she replied” just search for people who look lost and confused”. It struck a chord deep within me because I was really lost and confused, not only that but also anxious, friendless, and afraid of all the responsibilities and of the possibility of failing. While my family assured me that these obstacles are the key element in becoming more responsible, and overcoming them will allow me to discover my strengths and weaknesses. I, on the other hand, felt like these obstacles were not character builders, but more like energy and time consumers that affected the academic performances and health of both my peers’ and myself. I strongly believe that fixing these problems should be one of the university’s priorities.…

Freshman year of high school is scary for anyone, the enormous transition from being a top dog at middle school, back to an underclassman; wondering if your high school teachers will be as unforgiving as your 8th grade teacher’s descriptions, or even just that uncertainty that comes along with any major change. As a homeschooler entering school system for the first time, and having completely skipped 8th grade, it was terrifying. I had no idea what to expect, I worried about being behind the other students, or having missed something in my homeschooling curriculum, even interacting with other kids was all unfamiliar.
