For many high school volleyball players there is a common goal of getting an athletic scholarship. But is playing high school volleyball enough to get into college? “About 432,176 high school athletes start out the season intending to make it into at least a Division I or II College. But only about four percent actually make it on to a college team” (NCAA). This is where club volleyball comes into play, it allows volleyball players to play a longer season rather than just three months, as well as it allows players to make certain connections that they normally would not be able to make in a high school atmosphere.

The amount of training and time club volleyball players put into the sport is probably next to insane. In high school volleyball, most coaches do not know all the fundamentals, which can cheat most players out of bettering their skills. While in club volleyball, players can spend anywhere from two to four hours practicing the fundamentals of volleyball such as serving, passing, and hitting. This is also topped with many workouts outside of the gym, such as running and a bit of weight training. Now, technically speaking they do have a lot of similarities but if you look at it a bit deeper there is more to it. In high school volleyball, depending on the school size, you have a mish-mesh of players with all different skill sets. This can allow the team to have what any basic school team could have as in regards to team dynamics, by cheering each other on and getting other players to snap out of either a slum or a bad play. But, club volleyball have players try out in order to be on the team, this requires players to have the ability to communicate as a team and work together as well as have the skills to play. Another component to having a good team dynamic is the coaching, the team can be able to play well but every team needs a solid coach. Many high school coaches usually coaching volleyball are waiting for basketball start but start coaching just to stay in practice of yelling. But this is where the problem of fundamentals comes in and hurts the players.
