School volleyball vs. Club Volleyball

For many high school volleyball players there is a common goal of getting an athletic scholarship. But is playing high school volleyball enough to get into college? “About 432,176 high school athletes start out the season intending to make it into at least a Division I or II College. But only about four percent actually make it on to a college team” (NCAA). This is where club volleyball comes into play, it allows volleyball players to play a longer season rather than just three months, as well as it allows players to make certain connections that they normally would not be able to make in a high school atmosphere.

The amount of training and time club volleyball players put into the sport is probably next to insane. In high school volleyball, most coaches do not know all the fundamentals, which can cheat most players out of bettering their skills. While in club volleyball, players can spend anywhere from two to four hours practicing the fundamentals of volleyball such as serving, passing, and hitting. This is also topped with many workouts outside of the gym, such as running and a bit of weight training. While, high school volleyball requires none of that but some players have self-discipline to put in the extra effort to aid them in their …show more content…
Now, technically speaking they do have a lot of similarities but if you look at it a bit deeper there is more to it. In high school volleyball, depending on the school size, you have a mish-mesh of players with all different skill sets. This can allow the team to have what any basic school team could have as in regards to team dynamics, by cheering each other on and getting other players to snap out of either a slum or a bad play. But, club volleyball have players try out in order to be on the team, this requires players to have the ability to communicate as a team and work together as well as have the skills to play. Another component to having a good team dynamic is the coaching, the team can be able to play well but every team needs a solid coach. Many high school coaches usually coaching volleyball are waiting for basketball start but start coaching just to stay in practice of yelling. But this is where the problem of fundamentals comes in and hurts the players. As opposed to club volleyball coaches who basically are either volunteers or paid coaches to get club teams and players to the level they need to be

In high school, it can seem like the most important thing in life. I, fortunately, was involved in many other activities to fill up my time. I could not play volleyball my sophomore or junior year. This really upset me because I love the sport. While sitting on the side lines, I had a decision to make: sit here bitterly and wish I could be playing, feeling sorry for myself, or cheer my team on and try to be a positive impact on them.…

Many professional players, including Kobe Bryant, began their career by playing Amateur Athletic Union basketball to get noticed by college coaches. Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) basketball is an organization designed to give high school players more exposure to college coaches. AAU basketball is more beneficial than high school basketball because there is tougher competition, teammates who love the game, and coaches with more basketball knowledge. First of all, the competition in AAU basketball is different than the competition in high school basketball because most players on the floor intend to play at the college level. Some players may have already verbally committed to a level as high as division one.…

Because we lost our game the previous night, we all knew what kind of practice we were in for, and it was not a fun one. First, we had to do a drill that involved each of us individually bumping the volleyball in the air and bumping it again so we were passing to ourselves for one minute. While this seemed like an easy drill, it was not so easy for all nine players on the sophomore team. Also, every time a ball hit the ground we had to do six sprints the width of the volleyball court. We ended up doing this all practice until, in the last five minutes, we successfully completed the drill.…

The struggle between sports will always exist amongst the fans. Fans will debate that their sport is better than the next. The best ways to distinguish the sports are by action, the live play, and the amount of skills needed to succeed in the sport. The most common comparison is football and soccer, however the real similarities to soccer are shown in basketball. I am here to say that soccer and basketball are very similar, in ways of multiple skills that are used, including tackling, intercepting, shooting, and blocking, the set up of the rules (out of bounds, overtime, illegal ball handling), the federations behind the sports (MLS and NBA), the team sport aspect as well as the individual play, and the overall speed of play.…
