Rushing into the Panther Dome to the song heard for the hundredth time, working through warmups, the adrenaline pumps through the bodies of the players. The school is electric. Fans fill the air with cheers of encouragement. The familiar glares from familiar faces received and returned, only build the anticipation. As the final whistle sounds to signal the team to take their positions, all of the sounds stop. The cheering fades. The crowd begins to dim. All that matters now is the game. Meanwhile in the Edward Jones Dome, expectations are high. Scouts line the court, pencils ready, meticulously examining every move the girls make. In school volleyball the school holds one tryout for all of the girls wanting to play volleyball regardless their age or ability. These girls are then broken up into a freshman, junior varsity, and varsity team keeping in mind their age and ability. This creates the opportunity for younger, more experienced players to take priority over those with seniority. Overall this sets a more competitive drive into the girls to keep their skills sharper than the incoming class. Comparing the selection of players on a school volleyball team to that of a club team can turn up varying results. On a club volleyball team the players are chosen at a tryout among girls of similar age and ability. Each team will hold its separate tryout in its gym, so it is up to the player to choose which team would best fit them and their ability. When playing school volleyball the expectations of the game vary depending on the size, and success of the schools program. A school with a higher class, who continually wins state championships is going to follow a stricter schedule, as supposed to a school with a lower class and not as much success. In club volleyball the expectations are high and the pressure is higher.
