Three years elapsed, and with those years gone, so were my hardships. The start of my fourth year marked the turning point for me and what made my final year in high school a memorable one. Unlike the years prior where my opinion didn’t matter, my senior year was when I was finally recognized and praised for my abilities. I felt like I was an asset to the team rather than someone who was just taking up space. I was given first priority when the time had come to pick numbers.…
Some General ideas and advantages of having a Growth Mindset and Grit would be accomplishing your goals, encouraging yourself to work harder, and overcoming challenges. In the article "Angela Duckworth and Research on Grit" by Emily Hanford she describes what it means to be gritty. Premier: Take 2 It was a hot and sweaty practice. My heart was pounding out of my chest. All you could see was torn turf and padded up lacrosse players. It was my second time trying out for this team, the Premier Lacrosse Group didn’t want me last time…
Jakob Frickson Personal narrative I expecting a hard fought game and it was. The score went back and forth, touchdown after touchdown; we fought hard, exhausted and cramping up, the siren sounded the end of the game. We lost. Even though we lost i was still happy, happy to see how fThe time was 9:30, friday night, november of 2015. I’m on a knee looking up at the barely visible stars, i hear the siren go off behind me, that siren represents the end of my high school football career.…
Eventually, a month before my first semester at Montgomery College started, the soccer team began with full-force, demanding prospective players to go through a harsh two session per day, seven days a week pre-season. Under the coaching of the demanding yet respectable Pedro Braz, the team and I were embedded with the idea that we had to become discipline and fit in order to raise up to the challenge of keeping the victorious legacy that he had built since his arrival two years ago. Personally, I had never gone through such an intense period of physical work in my entire life, in some instances almost to the point of complete exhaustion. Two weeks, 24 three-hour-sessions later, and our first friendly match in pre-season arrived. I can hardly remember any moments of that game, but I can remember what I felt standing on the pitch waiting to play the game as if I had that moment tattooed on my arm; I felt euphoric at the thought of have completed a pre-season that only very few people could have…
I knew that I wasn't a quitter and I had to think of a way to make my football Career better. Through the last two years of football I have not been a starter and this made me question my abilities. Even though I showed up to everything and put forth my best effort and I still didn't play. I wondered if I was even good enough to be part of the team, and if the coaches just had favorites.…
Wanting to show off my speed I ran my heart out. I did not make it to first place but I did finish in the top three. Now I start feeling a little tired then I see my fellow classmates start playing football then they call me over to play. You know I didn’t want to be that one kid to be called an odd ball or a loner, so I join them.…
My senior year could have not started any better. On July 30th, 2015 I get a call from Coach Brock Hayes from Louisiana College offering me a scholarship to play at the college level. Ever since I was small, I always dreamed about playing college football and it finally came to reality. Fall camp was getting ready to start, and I was so excited to get my senior season started. I put in so much work and effort to get into the position I was in, so I was not going to let my team down.…
At recess a couple of us would play two hand touch football so we could could learn for high school. When a couple of my friends and I got to high school we joined the football team. I knew the practices were going to be hard, but i didn’t know how hard. The first day at practice all we did was run and I thought i was going to die. After practice I went home and rested.…
I had just gotten back from Junior Olympics (for track and field) in Houston Texas, in which I competed in Javelin, and The 100m Dash, where I strained my hamstring after finishing the biggest race of my life. As summer came to an end, football was right around the corner. Being the stubborn teenager, I refused to sit out and heal; Football was the biggest thing I looked forward to all year. The first week of practice went by painfully; I remember finding myself with an ice bag around my strained hamstring every night. By the end of the week I couldn’t endure the pain, but I made the team, there was no going back.…
and I was looking at a huge season ahead of me. I was looking at starting both sides of the ball offense and defense. It was something that I was trying to achieve my whole high school career, since the very first moment I stepped on a field. In the weightroom for 6 days out of a week, dedicating my whole summer for season for this particular moment. I remember this day as if it were yesterday…
Soon enough, the first practice arrived on a scorching Florida summer’s day. If I had to describe that practice in one words, it would be “painful.” Football practice was much more rigorous than anything I was used to, making practicing very difficult, but despite the…
Transcripts I’m satisfied with the grades I have earned during my high school career. During my freshman year I struggled with some classes but it impacted me to set goals for myself. I strived for good grades and will never allow myself to fail. Many nights I will study for hours to insure my knowledge before tests or assignments, but it’s all been worth it. I’ve gained valuable knowledge from each class I attended.…
Loud cheers and shouts make your ears ring as you sprint through the field as fast as a cheetah. The brown leather ball suddenly feels as heavy as a boulder in your hands as you try to avoid getting tackled. Huff! Huff! Your breath is heavy, and the sun’s light bores down onto your back.…
It’s my first morning of high school at a new school. New hallways, new people, new teachers, and new clothes. It was my junior year and I transferred schools because my mom said if I didn’t keep my grades up I have to go to the public school because she wasn’t going to pay all that money for me to fail. My sophomore year I failed a class…
