High School Team Analysis

I attend a mostly white high school. Although students get along, you usually only find single ethnic groups hanging out together throughout the day. My experience has been that students feel comfortable engaging with groups that look mostly like them. Our school lacks diversity inclusion…..except in a few key areas. These areas include; sports teams, sporting events, activities, charity or working towards a common goal. I have contributed as a leader in each of these areas.

Sports Teams: I joined the school track team as a sprinter my freshman year. Our team has bonded over the idea of helping our school to make it to the state track meets. During our events, you will see all students cheering each other during our events and being very supportive. As a team captain, it has been very important to me to recruit a variety track members and to let them know that our team is a family environment filled with passion and mutual respect. We unite in supporting one another and making fun of our tyrant yet very supportive coach. This was also true when I joined the all white girls track team. Initially, I was not sure how I would be received. But again we cheered each other on during matches and bonded in our love for our tennis team.

I especially enjoy standing in the first row and leading cheers and helping to select themes for our student section at our sporting events. We are one big family at our games (win or lose). This year our student section won the honor of having the Ohio State University student section come to our game and cheer with

Fitting in is not the easiest thing to do. I went to a predominantly African American middle school in a predominantly African American community. I assumed all schools curriculum were the same but I was wrong. My mom moved us to a community across town that had more Caucasians than African Americans and I had to then transfer schools. At my former school I was a top notch student academically and was sure to carry that reputation with me.…

In the past four years, I have had many experiences with family, friends and an extreme amount of clubs, activities, and home life occasions I am involved in. But in all honesty sports have taught me a lot about people, life and even myself. I have been a part of many teams in my lifetime and played several abstract sports, but at Summit Academy High School the sports are very unique. There are mixed attitudes towards the teams, players and coaches that you would not see at any other school. But I like to call them obstacles and challenges.…

Through student council I have worked closely with my teachers and advisors to better my school by bringing our student body together for events such as pep rallies and competitive games during homecoming week. I have also made great friendships with peers outside of my usual classrooms which has helped shape me into a well rounded person. With National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society, we have bettered our community through projects such as a can food drive and buying Christmas gifts for children in need. National Honor Society has also helped me gain connections with our local Special Olympics where I volunteered this past year and plan to continue volunteering. As a member of Mu Alpha Theta, I helped to donate school supplies to children in need as well as a food drive and buying Christmas gifts for more children.…

Introduction: Magnet schools are schools of choice that are part of the public school system. They were created for the purpose of reversing the de facto segregation that was happening in urban schools in the 1970s. The school and curriculum is often built around a theme. That theme may be a subject area like STEM or the arts or an emphasis on an educational program like the International Baccalaureate curriculum or the Advance Placement program. Magnet schools have no geographic boundaries for enrollment, and the school theme is supposed to encourage white suburban families to voluntarily enroll their children in an urban school that is farther from home because of the unique educational opportunity the magnet school presents1.…
