High School Students Procedures

The student population that the following procedures are made for are learning disabled high school students that range in age from 15-19 years of age. Currently, all of the students are male. A couple of the students have problems with inappropriate touching of other individuals and aggressive behaviors, so they have to be monitored carefully and re-directed away from atypical behaviors several times a day. We enforce strict rules when we walk about the school with these students because they are not allowed to reach out and make other people feel afraid or uncomfortable. Next, these students do not show that they have been trained to pick up after themselves when in situations such as picking up their clothing and other personal items in the locker room or cleaning up spills and messes made while eating breakfast or lunch. In addition, a few of them will quickly jump up from their seats and aggressively take food from another student’s plate, so we have to carefully scan for incidences such as these and give them reminders of how to act appropriately.

If the student needs to get up from his seat, he must ask or gesture for permission except to throw away trash and leftover food. No student is allowed to take food from another individual’s plate by force; however, if the other individual willingly gives away food items, the items may be taken by another student who uses correct manners. Any food or drink spills and trash items must be picked up by the individual that makes the mess or needs to discard items. Any items owned by the student such as jackets, lunch boxes, water bottles, and book bags, etc. are the responsibility of the student to keep up with; however, for learning disabled students, constant reminders are given to help keep the individuals aware of keeping up
