What does school mean? During your time In pre K-12th you 're set to learn, I would say the basic counting, reading, writing etc... there’s plenty of things grade school should have taught better, money management, first aid, communication. My experience there are not many tools given to their students to use in the adult world. Maybe it’s the reliance on a standardized test? But through my experience through high school, I am the person that I am today. I have the tendency to procrastinate. I also hated to ask for help from anyone that wasn’t a teacher or an aid. There was a feeling of frustration that I didn’t get it, but my peers did. This was harmful and anytime a teacher asks me to ask one of the “smart kids” for help I always felt …show more content…
I 'm still new to the program but so far getting through this semester with their support will be a lot of help. As for what’s the purpose of education? Well, grade school is there so when you get out of high school your not a complete moron. As for higher education, well people with a college education tends to make more money. I think it is for getting uncomfortable and challenging your ideas and defending them. Throughout your life you are going be a challenge, sometimes you need to expect that you are wrong. Other time you need stand up for your beliefs and defend them. Being the wrong isn 't a bad thing being content on staying wrong is. in the passage from the book Bird by birds by Anne Lamont in Short Assignments, she uses a one-inch picture frame to write as much to fill the picture frame. I really think it’s a good idea to pace yourself than to do all the work at the last minute. but to do things as her father told to her brother “Bird by bird, buddy. Just take it bird by bird” (13) . The Father said that to his son because that his son waited last minute to do a report on a bird that he had three months to do. I really can relate to it. I’ve been in this situation before and most likely will be in it again. But for now, I’ll do

Learning to write When I attended elementary school, part of the curriculum was penmanship. There was a certain segment of instruction dedicated to penmanship rather than writing. We were given large sheets of oat colored paper with three parallel lines widely spaced. The alphabets were used to print and write in cursive using the midpoint, and upper lines for capital letters. The handwriting grades were based on neatness and readability.…

The Final Test I passed the final test, but they didn’t. It all started with my class, called the “9ers”. We were the first class to ever have their whole grade graduate on the same day. We were the smartest of them all, is what the counselor told us. All we had to do was pass the final test to figure out who were leaving to go to the new community.…

For most people, school is about staying on top of your class, making perfect grades, and then moving on to the next thing, with little thought of the past or future. Now I’m not here to criticize others and their methods, but to me, that all sounds like a big waste of time. Good grades are great and all, but if that’s the extent of school, then I’d rather just learn everything on my own time. I’m in it for the knowledge learned and the experiences gained; the kinds of things that will help you to react in the best way to what life has to throw at you. The best way I can see to gain this kind of practical experience and knowledge is to surround myself with other people with the same idea as me, much like the Engineering Honors program will…

When people think about school they believe that you should go for a four year degree or something even longer. But people need to know that trade school is just as important as the degree that others are going for. Everyone looks down on the trade school degrees saying that people are lazy because they do not wanna put in that extra work to get the degree, but this is not true. Trade school is very important when you think about it, just as important as a four year degree in some cases. Trade school is not for everyone, just as a four year degree is not for everyone people need to decide what they wanna do in life and need to not care what anyone says about what they are doing.…

In March 2012, soon after I was accepted to an unfamiliar high school, I had the opportunity to follow around a freshman in order to see the school firsthand. He showed me around the school, including the school's Chess Club. During that lunch, the members of Chess Club taught me about a chess variant, bughouse, which turns the typically slow-paced individual game into a brisk competition between pairs of players. Six months later, I walked into Georgetown Day School as a student. I dropped by Chess Club so I could see some familiar faces, and somehow they all remembered my name from the 20 minutes they spent with me half a year earlier.…

Three years into my high school I hadn't gotten into the state of mind that most over achievers have. I had floated through high school thinking I was trying my very hardest to get good grades and become a consistently studious candidate of my school. However, no matter how hard I tried I failed I gave into all the distractions and used all my obstacles as excuses became frustrated and developed an attitude problem that I had created myself. Being a consistent 2.5 student wasn't satisfying or inspiring. Uniquely enough, I had decided to take challenging courses my junior year.…

Schooling and Identity I have always been made fun of and judged about being African in school. During the time of elementary and middle school, I felt like it was necessary for me to act a certain way in order to not be looked down upon. I felt like this for the reason that I did not want students to call me names, say stereotypical things about Africa, and to assume that I was not able to learn. In elementary school, I did not want to wear certain hairstyles and wear African clothing to school. Following my elementary school years going on to middle school, I did not want people to call me by my name, instead I wanted people to call me by my nickname.…

English 2010 has been a learning experience for me, I've been able to learn a lot about english that I did not know or work on before. With the first essay that we worked on I did a memoir I really enjoyed working on this paper, In class we were able to get freedom to add pictures to are pictures make it a little bit more creative I certainly was not used to this; I’ve been told my whole schooling experience that you have the intro and the conclusion and three body paragraphs. The memoir I was able to write to what I felt like I needed it to be, add pictures so it could appeal more to the eye when reading and also made it easier.…

In the beginning of kindergarten I was a very shy and scared little girl, I did talk to anyone in my class the first day. As I scrolled through the course catalog for my first trimester of senior year, I searched for courses that would fit with my passions and senioritis. I was pretty much finished with a lot of my requirements for graduation, so I wanted to take classes that interested me and involved most of my passions. I took a mental note of a few of the classes I would definitely want to register for: Advanced Drawing and Painting, Latin American Studies, Western Feminism… and the list went on. I continued this process of selecting my classes until I came to a pause. Existentialism.…

Out of the three topics to write about for this essay, I decided to choose education, the reason choosing so would be because education is the process of sharing knowledge (and wisdom) to the new generations so we can further ourselves as a whole and continue our existence as a species on this planet. I will mostly write what I believe our system has faults with and how the system itself could be improved. While our current system is decent enough to function, it’s not reaching its full potential for being effective. The educational system we have now is the same one we used back in the 17th century, which during the time began using factories to mass produce.…
