High School Strike Zone Analysis

I made a trip up to the both this weekend to talk with Joey Tilley about comments said by the umpires during the championship game on Sunday the 15th. While I understand they are human and are not going to get every call correct these statements should never be said. The plate umpire approached our dugout after the plate meeting and before the start of the game with a the statement I do not have a high school strike zone, you have two foot arms, swing 36 inch bats and my zone is 6 inches either side of the plate. He said he wanted us to know before the game so we could learn it now rather than figuring it out in the third inning. He said this to everyone in the dugout, all of my players and coaches. Now, I can dismiss silly statements just as well as the …show more content…
It is very hard to keep their confidence up at the plate with an inconsistent strike zone, it is almost impossible to give them any confidence with a strike zone almost double in size of what it should be. While this statement is troubling, it is far from the worst of the afternoon. There was a questionable call made on a bunt down first base line. One of those calls that could have gone either way. Our fans got rowdy, which they do from time to time, it is going to happen. Runner was safe at first until the plate umpire called it a foul ball. Hence the rowdy fans, however, no derogatory comments were made by them. Batter returns to the plate, runner returns to first. Next pitch, runner steals, called out at second, was under the tag and the ball was dropped. Again, rowdy fans, understandably so, field umpire said it was in transition, transition to what we are not sure. That was the third out, my first base coach overheard the field umpire while talking with the plate umpire, say that he wouldn't have called that kid safe at second, not after all

Response on Dave Barry’s “Batting Clean-Up and Striking Out” Glancing around my bedroom, I observe clean floors and homework assignments sprawled out on the table as my jumbled written thoughts are on the brink of being thrown away. My collection of books is lined up neatly on a shelf along with the stuffed animals my grown-up self does not play with anymore. I can hear down the stairs and I listen to the television playing the Cleveland Brown’s football game and the microwave signaling the finished result of the leftover brisket that was in the refrigerator. In Dave Barry’s essay, “Batting Clean-Up and Striking Out,” he explains that the majority of women fasten their focus on the unimportant aspects of life such as cleaning; yet through the…

Pregame meals are an important part of most sports fans’ gameday routine. My routine involves eating a Chipotle burrito bowl in front of my television prior to Tampa Bay Lightning ice hockey games. I do this in good faith that my routine will lead the Bolts, as they are dubbed, to victory. Gameday Chipotle just seemed to fit because after all, hockey is a sport full of superstition and protein-crunching athletes. By 6:30 on Saturday evening, I was ready.…

Obituary of the Good Ole Days Imagine a little league baseball coach- a middle-aged man with graying hair and the faint odor of barbecue sauce lingering on his cargo shorts. He towers over his team of scrappy second graders and looks down with disapproval. Instead of encouraging the children to play to their strengths and enjoy the game, he tirelessly ridicules the young players for having more advanced bats and gloves than he did. Back in his day, he had to make do with a wooden bat and a worn-out glove passed down from his older brother.…

f banning name calling in high school sports really violates freedom of speech, as Steve Trevelise argued in an article then I guess many other of my fundamental freedoms guaranteed in the Bill of Rights are being violated. Trevelise’s reasoning for yelling crude, derogatory remarks at other players as being a fundamental human right is hilariously bogus. The implementation of this law by New Jersey officials was not to limit the players or the coaches or the audience’s freedom of speech, but to limit the violence occurring during and after games. Trevelise also states that many fought and died so that you can have [freedom of speech].Our ancestors did not solely fight in wars so that anyone can frivolously toil away yelling lewd remarks toward the players.…

Summary Analysis 2 In Dave Barry’s entertaining essay “Batting Clean-Up and Striking Out,” he forms pictures of real life in his reader’s minds. He entertains his readers with the difference between the sexes giving examples he has experienced in his own life; men and women’s instincts are different. Two of the points he really focuses on are women’s awareness of dirt (220) and men’s sensitivity to sports (221). Women can see dirt that men can’t see at all which makes them exceptionally bad at cleaning, especially bathrooms.…

Since I was not present at the game, I have to go off of the rumors reverberating at supersonic speeds through the thick Alabama haze. Considering the match situation, it was a significant knock in many ways. India were 47 for 1 when the local boy Pujara came into the crease and along with Murali Vijay, played almost a match saving innings. Meanwhile, during the course of that 124-run innings, Pujara scored his runs with on an impressive rate of almost 61 runs per 100 balls, which can be considered as a fitting reply to recent criticisms on his so called poor strike-rate.…
