Research indicates that one of the primary benefits of high school sports is physical and emotional health. Coming to terms with defeat can teach a student the resilience and self-aware necessary to manage academic, social, and physical hurdles. A study by Magic Bus in India found that 25% of primary level students did not attend school and that 57% of student drop out of school by the 8th grade. By adding sports to their curriculum 10% of students began to attend school again. Researcher David Peedom said that “Sports give people the ability to engage with one another. If you don’t have connections how are you supposed to grow?”
Participation in sports also leads to students learning new things, according to Natalie Hawkins students learn self-discipline, time management, how to work well with others to reach a common goal, and how to work as a team. Kevin Kniffin reported that research proved people who played high school sports get better jobs, with better pay.
