The gym floor was covered in students dressed in blue and white, all chasing after a large beach ball. Their legs kicked up higher than their heads as the ball went back and forth along the top of the crowd. The students watching from the bleachers screamed at the top of their lungs hoping their team would score. This was crab-walk soccer, a game marking the start of the first ever Westbrook High School Color Games. Color Games is the Seeds of Peace Olympics, where campers are split into two teams that compete in every activity camp has to offer.…

As the current coaching staff knew, we were struggling without the guidance of our previous coach: every meet was like going into enemy territory, with little hometown crowd support. When our new Coach reminded us that we were unified and could stand with one another knowing that we’d triumph, we were rejuvenated. Commencing our execution of every meet in intention, we were conscious that our effort would amount to…
In conclusion, we learned that we should take every game as if it’s a championship game. No matter what our record or who we are winning, we must try our hardest and give our all. Our parents saying the usual, “Good game boys, it was so close. You’ll get them next season.”…

During the 2016-17 soccer pre-season player-parent meeting, Head Coach Bolanos distributed a couple of handouts detailing expectations, important season dates, upcoming fundraisers, soccer rules, his coaching philosophy, and soccer positions. However, as the 2016-17 season unraveled, he did not adhere to his coaching philosophy, nor did he live up to his promises. Therefore, Head Coach Bolanos was not successful at demonstrating the ability to organize, communicate, motivate, and develop the young athletes on the Pine Ridge High School Girls Soccer Varsity and Junior Varsity Teams. Head Coach Bolanos is not organized and it has become apparent over the past two seasons.…
During the soccer unit I made many calls including: offsides, out of bounds, hand ball, pushing, and goal. The call that occurred most often was out of bounds, which happened about 5 times throughout my refereeing experience. Out of bounds was the easiest call to make because you can see it happen from many directions, and it is not really a judgement call. The hardest call to make was the offsides penalty. This was the hardest because I was unfamiliar with the rule.…
Learning from Soccer The most important thing that I learned in the soccer class is to work in a team. I feel like this skill could be apply in different areas in my life including social and academical. I like how from not knowing anyone in the class I got to play and work together to score the most goals possible even tho that wasn't always the case. Also a really important aspect in working in a team is communicating with the teammates.…
A soccer game consists of two 45-minute halves where players, cover 10-12 kilometers at varying intensities throughout the game (Stølen et al., 2005, p. 503). Midfielders run the longest distance during a soccer match in comparison to the other positions. The ability to sustain the duration of the games illustrates the different physiological requirements needed for midfielders. In total, they cover about 10-12 kilometers with varying intensities throughout the game (Stølen et al., 2005, p. 503). Walking and jogging accounted for approximately 70% of the total activity during the game (Dill, 2014, p. 11).…
Importance of energy systems involved in performance: During a soccer game, each energy system is applied with various intensities from low to high that are used. It can be hard to establish which energy system is used most frequently during a game of soccer for a defender. This is because there are many different movements performed with different levels of intensity that change throughout a game of soccer. For example, a defender will usually sprint and then stop, walk, jog and then sprint again in order to get the ball from the opposing team.…
Soccer is the world’s most popular sport played in many countries at the professional level (Williams, 2013). The challenge to produce a winning performance at the professional level is high, with teams frequently playing one weekly match and even up to two or three matches in a week during congested periods in the competition calendar. As such, physical preparation in soccer differs drastically from individual sports as peak performance is needed each week throughout the season(Morgans, Orme, Anderson, & Drust, 2014). In team sports such as soccer, training are usually structured in groups sessions such as small sided games in developing players’ technical skills and tactical awareness (Morgans et al., 2014). Consequently, the training stimulus…
Soccer is a sport that involves running, jumping, kicking, sliding defending etc. A sport that would not be possible if we were unable to move, but what exactly causes our body to move? What are the factors that help produce movement? Many might think we move because of muscle contractions but there is more to it than the shortening and lengthening of a muscle. There are forces and laws that influence every movement produced by the body.…
We won the first game, second game, third game until we reached the finals. What a shocker it was to discover that our opponent would be Yadika High School, our rivals. We always met during the school league but we always lost to them because they are just ahead on us in speed, power, and strength. The day of the final match came. My heart was pounding so hard it feels like ready to explode, while my stomach felt like there are a million butterflies.…
