High School Should Establish An Honor Code Of Conduct

Dishonest behavior is often encouraged by environment. The high school should establish an honor code that allows the students to enforce a standard that discourages bad academic conduct. In a classroom, cheating behaviors are only safely exhibited if there is an acceptance within classmates that this is okay. While it is true that cheating is never okay, there is little hesitation to think about the consequences of your dishonesty if that is the standard.
Cheating is often the option taken to get ahead, quicker. The intended outcome of cheating is normally to be successful. Your knowledge and ideas are rewarded whereas stealing someone else’s is punished. Employing an academic honor code to encourage creativity and dismiss dishonesty is much more meaningful if orchestrated by the students themselves. The code of conduct that embraces honesty and originality is perceived less as rules that restrict or confine students but more as the culture that they can be proud of. It is hypocritical to use dishonorable behavior to enforce honorable behavior, impeding on a student’s privacy to prove that they are cheating does not make for an ethical ruling.
