I get off the bus and walk to the doors, hoping next summer will come around fast. The first day of eighth grade. I walk into school and the sudden realization that I am the oldest in the school. Knowing nothing of what the year will have in store, I venture to my first class. The excitement rushes through my veins, a brand new year, lots to come but deep inside the fear of high school is prevalent. My knowledge of the High School is insignificant, but I recognize I must get good grades or my placement next year will not be the greatest. Rumors about how the High School is even more strict than William Annin circulate across the school which leaves my thinking, If you get a detention in middle school for throwing a water bottle cap, what is …show more content…
Colleges looked at whether kids took honor classes in High School which was the main reason why it was so important to me to be in them. My grades were going good and I was sure to be in honors classes, if my average only counted for the second half of the school year. In order to take these types of classes, you had to receive an A- for the whole year. This was my problem. The first two marking periods, my averages did not look good, they actually did not look anything close to good. It would be immense amounts of work to raise these averages, but I was a determined student with a goal in mind. For the next couple months the work was grueling. I studied every single day for things that were weeks away, did homework that was due next week and went to bed early every night in order to be more alert in school. After school I did not partake in any activity beside school related work. The grades started coming in and they were much improved. Slowly, my averages started ascending. I had an A in most of my class’s during the fourth marking period. Then, the day came. I got up and was immediately reminded that today was the day when I would find out if all my hard work had paid off. With one glance enraging disappointment hit me all over. The hard work and dedication was not enough to be able to take any honor classes. Although this experience was not my favorite memory, and left me emotionally dismantled, I learned

Middle school can be an odd and rough time for kids, as they change from being sheltered youth to responsible young adults. I failed miserably at handling that transition. The classes taught in middle school were supposed to be easy, especially now that I look in retrospect. Yet, I regularly brought home B’s and low A’s, at best, on my report card. I had barely challenged myself in middle school, if at all.…

There are several experiences in my life where I have felt that I was treated in an unfair manner, but the most recent of those experiences is the one that occurred to me only months prior to this application. Up until the beginning of November of this year, I used to believe that being a great and successful student would be the most rewarding accomplishment of my senior high career. As a result of this, I unwisely assumed that the most important thing in my life was how well I could do on the next test. I spent a meager amount of my time involved in anything else aside from my homework or studying; expecting to be fairly remunerated for a majority of my hard work. Earlier this year, I was indeed rewarded with an application to National Honors…

To begin with, when I attended Schurr High School I maintained a grade point average in my junior and senior year that was worthy of being awarded with Honor Roll and Renaissance; renaissance was obtained when a student had a grade point average above 2.5. The reason there is no mention of freshman and sophomore year of high school is due to a poor comprehension and a lack of motivation in academics during those years, however, I have corrected my faulty method of thinking and I will not resort to such mentality again. The past is a marker for the future and one does pay the price for any past actions that resulted in a setback. Furthermore, I had Perfect Attendance my freshman and sophomore year, but that was not possible during my junior and senior year given that certain events arose within that time span.…

I dreaded going to my English honors class every day, because I felt that no matter how hard I tried writing a good paper it was never enough to get me a grade higher than a C.
