High School Satire

Decent Essays
Occasionally I look back on my high school experience and realize I never did a keg stand at a party, I never skipped class to get stoned, and I also never got the guy I had a crush on for three years. Instead, I was studying for that AP government exam, standing in front of my fellow science club members talking about how we can restore our local creek, or working on hitting fastballs for softball. When I catch myself feeling as though I missed out on stereotypical high school or even college experiences I watch a movie not just any movie but a teen comedy. My ideal teen comedy has a group of friends who are about to graduate high school or already have that feel like they missed out on the clique high school experience, in order to gain some

Think about the typical 80's "coming of age" movie set in high school. It opens by introducing the audience to the main character, usually not the most handsome, most popular or athletic teenager. He sees the most beautiful girl in the school and wishes he could be with her. Long story short, he gets the girl, loses the girl and some friends, gets friends back after much ridicule, and rides into the sunset with the girl. Well that’s how my story goes… sort of.…

America with deep sorrow I tell you this. America if we can see farther than others it is because we have stood on the shoulders of giants, and up here on those shoulders I can see 90 miles off the border and see Cuba there I see that the USSR has put nuclear missile parts there and more are on their way by ship. If we do not react I fear that the outcome will be not in our favor. The united states and the USSR have been in the cold war now and I fear that they will try to end the cold war here.…

    Satire In Brave New World

Samuel L. Jackson once said, “We’ve come a long way in our thinking, but also in our moral decay.” This quote holds true today as society stays rapidly changing and people become more and more desensitized to the horrors of the world. The line between right and wrong fades and turns to a larger gray area, and many things that happen in society today make us question how we, as a collective people, ended up where we are and how we acquired the customs we have today. Aldous Huxley, in his novel Brave New World, uses a great deal of satire and exaggeration to express his concerns for the society he was born into and bring attention to the problems of moral decay, drug dependency, and brainwashing, among other things, in the world.…

    Street Drugs Satire

Street drugs have always held poor connotations. Anyone who related with them would be immediately recognized as an addict or criminal. That is until opioids and prescription painkillers came around, when your white suburban mom could be just as dependent on a high as your average heroin junkie. I believe if opioids are continually available, other drugs should be legalized, focusing mainly on marijuana. Opioids: legal, completely accessible, and easily prescribed.…

One ominous morning of 2008 I woke up to a saddened atmosphere. I look around at my parents, who are hardcore republicans, and asked them what was wrong. They said that they had lost the election. My eight year old self replied that they never won because they never ran, and of course they explained that their party lost the run for presidency. For the years to come every time I would look at the news and see a little “R” next to a person name I would know that they are the “good guys”.…

High school students all go through the same problem: finding themselves. According to most, getting involved with clubs, having a social life, and taking the recommended AP courses would essentially make the students fit the standard of what a highschool student needs to be. But is it really necessary to go through the trouble? Would doing all of these things really help the students find themselves?…

There are many ways to harvest chicken and meats, but the most common one and the one you’re consuming may have been raised in the cage free environment and getting injected with steroids. That’s sound free and happy right? Well no is not, cage free stands for having thirty thousands of chicken or even more, stuck in a dark place where they cannot move. The chicken are only allowed to stand in one place, do their needs in that same place and not even get clean. Imagine your meats and poultry being injected with steroids, how bad does that sound?…

In the United States something as simple as a drug possession charge can get you into serious trouble, with some offenses even marked as felonies. (Controlled Substances Act, 2014) This is a ludicrous idea, drug crimes are usually victimless, restricting drug usage violates basic human rights, and even tobacco and alcohol are legal. In addition to these things, putting drug charges on a person’s criminal record, or sending someone to jail on drug charges pushes more people to a life of crime. For these reasons, I believe that people should not be punished for using drugs.…

When entering junior high, we were constantly reminded by teachers, parents, and school administrators how different it was from elementary school. It was supposed to be the start of a transition from childhood to young adulthood, and though I discounted many of these sentiments at the time, looking back it certainly was. In an instant, it seemed, everyone started swearing and the hallways began to smell of a putrid mixture of not enough or too much cologne. For the first time we had to change before gym, no one really sure whether it was more socially acceptable to change in a bathroom stall or feign confidence by doing it out in the open. Talk swirled of who got their periods, who was wearing what bra size, and which boys needed to stop cultivating…
