Today is the day, you finally graduate from this horrid and drama filled four years of high school. Your heart is racing and excitement overwhelms you as you step onto the stage, taking that big step into the next part of your life. The day has come to put the twelve years of school to work and pursue the career of your dreams. Unfortunately, This is just a fantasy for many students wishing to go to college. Most High school students transferring to the big college world have no idea what they want to do or feel unprepared for the hard task that comes with college. For example, if you are teaching about the years of slavery the African-americans had endured, 12 years as a slave could be a movie that would be shown. Adding a movie can help build interest in a topic that is being learned while providing a small break from normal classroom activities. Presenting information in numerous ways can be the key to helping students understand topics. Most teachers, now days, take advantage of this opportunity and would rather take the easy route out and just get through the year. The school system has been so corrupted with teachers that would rather go through the day, get paid, and just allow technology to do the work for them. Movies in the classroom are supposed to be educational and allow us to be prepared for the lesson that the teacher will be instructing. I have had many classes in High school that just show movies the entire year we are enrolled in the class. I could really blame the school system because they think that many classes are not as important as others. All the district is concerned only for certain subjects to passing test scores. Entering high school, all the freshman are pushed to just studying and studying to pass the STAAR test, which consist of English, Math, and basic science. The teachers in other subjects such as history, speech, and health class don’t feel important classes
