High School Post Analysis

Decent Essays
I have been wanting to write a advice post for high school freshmen for about a year now, so much that I wanted to start a blog focused on high school advice. Right now, I am well into my sophomore year of high school, and unfortunately, this isn't a common time to post an article like this, because most, if not all students, have gone back to school. But I couldn't not post this, because I think a lot about giving well-written, helpful advice that isn't cliche. (And by "a lot", I mean A LOT, as in almost every single day.) My next post will explain the weird timing, and also, there is no way I would want to post this during the upcoming summer, or as a junior, because I won't relate to it as well, and I'll definitely be more into the college stuff. Speaking of college, there will be more college info than you would typically expect in a post like this (I've been eagerly looking forward to college for quite the time.) This is probably a good time to mention that the current SAT will be replaced with a redesigned SAT next March. For me, the most major changes are no points being deducted for incorrect answers, and the "vocabulary part" of the Critical Reading section being eliminated. Some general tips will be more towards the beginning, and then the college tips will be come after. …show more content…
A teacher told me this on the first day of school in my freshman year, and I didn't want to believe it, but it has proven to be so true. I honestly can't believe that I am already a sophomore. With this in mind, time is unavoidable, and it's not worth wasting, because it's impossible to get back. I know homework (among other things) isn't something always looked forward to, but it's better to do it now than

This is a non-traditional high school and based on the population and my experience during the fall semester I still think that there is a lot to do here for this particular population (about their age, legal and social status). Everybody seemed very committed to work hard to support these students. It is true that regarding working with them in regular sessions is a challenge for the counselor. I feel it is difficult to work directly with students as probably I could have worked in a traditional school. I am really interested in working with this population and I also feel that if someone wants to learn and understand the immigrant population in other schools in this area and other areas this is a great place to learn.…

Kerensa, The semester has slipped by disturbingly fast. Hopefully it's not just because I'm getting older -- the school year lasted forever when I was little. The weather has been weird: mildest winter on record with the largest snow storm of the year coming in late march. And yes, it did snow last week.…

Like you, I am also organized, but your post makes you sound so organized that it is uncomfortable! In regards to being a perfectionist, that is so me! I think organized was an excellent word to describe you, and really captures the type of person you are. Overall, I believe your post was beautifully put together, and it was a fantastic read. I always enjoy reading what you put out, so keep up the great work.…

Homework is one more this that replays the idea of early stress for the teenager. Homework is something that should not be provided. High school students should have the liberty to go home for family and self-dedicated time just like the rest of the family members that no longer attend high school. Some teachers assigned homework and set due dates too soon for the amount of work provided with not…

That’s all that matters, right? There’s no time for homework at all, because you’re at the school until about 5 or 6 at night doing extracurriculars like sports and clubs. Then, you have a decent amount of homework to complete on top of that. If someone is in extracurriculars, they spend about 10 hours at the school each weekday. That’s about 42% of the day spent at school.…

I teach "Introduction to Literature" and "Standard Freshman Composition" courses at Suffolk County Community College. I personally design both of my courses, which adhere to the mission statement of the college. In "Introduction to Literature," my students engage in imaginative works of literature, analyze major literary themes and forms, continue training in effective prose writing skills, and demonstrate maturity and thought and style when deconstructing literary elements such as image, plot, character, theme, and conflict. In "Standard Freshman Composition," I prepare my students to produce quality work that utilizes writing techniques, analyzes reading material, and incorporates research techniques that will aide them in their academic future. The outcomes of this course are for the student to be able to construct a central purpose in their expository work, to have coherent organization, improved writing mechanics, to formulate effective thesis statements that demonstrate complex thought, and to integrate relevant, cited sources into their work.…

During these past nine weeks, my English skills have improved in my writing, my reading, and my speaking. Some goals that I have for the remaining of the school year include participating more in class, reading more life-changing stories, and mastering the art of writing elaborate essays. In class, I enjoy listening more than I like speaking out loud. I believe that if I try to immerse myself into the lesson, I will be able to learn a lot more than if I just sit in my chair and try to finish my homework in class so I do not have to do it at home.…

As I first walked into classroom W3 to begin my first day of class in Freshman Composition, I could not help the nervous feeling in my gut. I have always gotten away with writing papers at the las minute, and I could tell right away that I would not be able to do that in this class. Although the instructor seemed nice enough, I was still nervous about all of the work outside of the classroom required. Despite the feeling in my gut, I still set lofty goals for the class, most of which revolved around receiving an “A” in the class.…

Being able to write has always been one of my biggest challenges in school. In high school, I would always struggle with the length of my essays because I was always taught that five sentences were enough to complete one paragraph. Each of my paragraphs only had one transition, which I would regularly start with, and my sentences had minimal detail. That was until I started English 1A and began to learn very important concepts for a nicely written assignment. For example, I have learned that transitions help your essay flow smoothly when you are adding new ideas or changing to a different subject.…
