High School Policy Research Paper

As a high school student and one that just went through the nightmare that is freshman year, of course I would absolutely love to have those policies in one of my classes. Although I would love to have these policies, I do know that those policies would ultimately set me up for failure in the future. So I have to agree with Phil on this one. This is taking it too far, when it comes to being a nice teacher. I'm a student that stays up late studying, goes in after class for extra help if needed, and just feels that I work very hard for the grades I get. I probably wouldn't ever actually take advantage of the policies because I don't think I could deal with the guilt of not actually earning those grades myself. I would like to have them as a last resort just in case I do bad on a test or project or anything like that. …show more content…
I do agree that we should be trying to find ways to make school less stressful. I'm a student athlete and I play basketball year round. Between my school work and my basketball I find myself often getting so stressed to the point where I can't focus. Which in turn makes me even more stressed because I can't focus and I still have school work to

One reason we should use this law is so that we can motivate kids to try harder and pay more attention in their classes. In Kentucky this law did not only help motivate the kids to try harder, it also made the teachers try to support the kids more. The author of “No Pass/No Drive” said “Other research has found that when ‘no pass/no drive’ rules exist, school staff members pay closer attention to students who may be at risk of dropping out, and try to help them earlier” (6). This could be caused by the students willingness and ambition to learn. If both the student and teacher is trying to succeed and get better it will cause positive change in the student’s grades.…

Some of the negatives to enforcing this policy on all students is the loss of their autonomy. Autonomy is one's right to make govern over themselves. In this case, it is the student's right to understand the consequences and act as they feel needed. Making this is policy infringes on this policy. Another thought that many people are fearful of, espoeccially in football, is the fear that these policies will change the game.…

Have you ever felt the need to take a day off school because of high stress and anxiety levels? Studies have shown that teenagers have recently shown an increase in stress, depression, and anxiety levels. This can lead to poor school performance. Should students have to go to school when they feel mentally unstable or should mental health days be a valid excuse for an absence. I believe that students should be able to use mental health as a valid excuse, just as sick days because it is quite impossible to focus on school and classwork when on the verge of a mental breakdown or on the verge of tears.…

A recent discussion has came up about how some schools in the eastern part of America have made the rule that if a student isn’t maintaining a 2.00 GPA or higher, their licenses can be revoked. While this is difficult for some people around the country to come up with an agreement on, many people disagree with it. Taking away a student's car for getting bad grades is an unfair idea. Granted, taking away a student's car because they are getting bad grades might make the student try harder in school. Yes, if student notices themselves getting bad grades, it could possibly motivate them to work harder in school and show more effort.…

I believe that if students fail, they shouldn’t be held back. One reason is that students who are held back tend to have lower grades than students who move ahead. Students who are held back are more likely to drop out of school than students who were never retained. Retained students are more likely to have poorer education and employment when they grow up. Retention lowers a student’s self-esteem and may make them feel like they are unintelligent.…

At every student council conference, each attendee receives a bag full of countless things like lanyards, coupons, pencils, and key chains. But of all the free stuff I've accumulated over the years, my favorite is one little, two inch, bright yellow pin that says, "I am Second". At that specific conference, the keynote speaker informed us that we are suppose to wear it on our shirts and when people read it, they should ask, "Then who is first?". In response, with a cheesy grin and an exaggerated wink, I am suppose to respond, "You are!". Not only will it make the other person chuckle, but it will remind us student council students that we are not here to be served but instead our purpose is to serve others.…
