Through this club I was able to serve as a mentor for various middle school students. Every Friday I would go to a middle school classroom and spend breakfast with them. During this time I would play games with them or talk to them about anything they wanted guidance with. The really cool thing about this program was that I didn't have to go a middle school, but because my school also has a middle school level. I was able to build relationships with students I see around…

I want to be a member of the Matoaca Middle National Junior Honor Society, because I believe that I possess the right characteristics to be a part of your association. Some examples of these traits are leadership, citizenship, character, and service. I am very honored to be considered for this society, but there is more than just my GPA to be considered. Besides the obvious pluses to being a part of this association, I am looking to widen my horizons and join other groups and clubs in order to make myself a better student and person overall. With me entering the exciting and scary world of high school in a year, I am trying my hardest to learn more than just math and other academic studies, but social lessons, such as leadership and and…

I’m grateful to have found a club called Junior Teen Institute-- an organization that promotes healthy lifestyles and peer leadership, back at my former school. The mentor often lectured us and her words profoundly motivated me, inspiring ideas that I decided to put into action. For the next week, I arduously wrote inspirational and encouraging words on sticky notes and contacted friends for help executing the plan. Soon, with permission, we were running around the school in the early morning, putting notes on lockers and using leftovers to decorate classrooms.…

Throughout my four years at DeSmet Jesuit High School, I have tried to become as involved in school activities as the student leaders I met on my very first days. These same students constantly led events both in and out of school. I was particularly impressed by the compañeros or the seniors in my freshman homeroom. From the first moment I met them, I decided to become as actively involved and well respected in our community as one of them. Now as my experience at DeSmet will soon come to an end, I believe that I have achieved that goal.…
