My goals are simple, to grow both as a person and a performer at University of Central Missouri. My entire high school career has been involved with the arts. My interest range from theater, music, dance and other aspects of the arts. In high school I have been involved in: drama team, musicals, choir, show choir, debate, A+ program, and Sophomore tutoring, just to name a few. The productions that I have been apart of include: How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Guys and Dolls, Check Please, Canned Hamlet, Big Fish, and and Improv Show at Central High School. I have also done a few productions at Missouri Western State University and Robidoux Resident Theatre. My roles in these productions ranged from lead character to ensemble.

Though I am grateful for my midwestern upbringing, I cannot deny the pushes and pulls of the heritage that propels me to look beyond Milwaukee. Every year my family has two Thanksgivings. We have, what you could call, the “traditional” American Thanksgiving then we do it all again the “Dominican way”. This tradition is something that represents both parts of my ethnicity really well. My mother is from the west coast and was brought up in a very traditional European manner.…

Growing up I was always the tallest kid in the class. Whenever class picture day rolled around, I knew that I was in the front of the line because of my height. It was somewhat embarrassing when all the boys were shorter than I, and the girls made me feel bad for how out of place I was. Not only did my height provide social awkwardness, it also administered the constant, never ending struggle of finding garments long enough. Whenever my mom or grandmothers wanted to take me back to school shopping, I made excuses of “I don’t need any more habiliments” or “I do not feel good, all of the sudden…”…

At some point in every person's life, they will have a special experience that will stick with them forever. One of my most memorable moments happened recently at a home volleyball game against Traverse City West. Approaching freshman volleyball season, the upperclassman spoke highly of the importance of overpowering TC West. As a ninth grader, I had the mindset that I would be playing for the freshmen team. I didn't think it really mattered what the outcome of the game would be, since we were only ninth graders.…

High school changes people. They express themselves, become opinionated, and they start to look at the world differently as they experience things they have never encountered before. A wise Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “Man’s mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions.” This quote is an excellent way to describe my experience in high school.…

I disliked almost everything about it but what I did not know at the time is that by my senior year I would eventually love this school as I molded it into a place that I wanted to be at. During the end of my freshmen year, I found myself with a new view of how I was going to cultivate at Springfield Township High School. After meeting a valuable presence that will have forever leave an imprint on me, I decided that I needed to get involved with school to become apart of it. What is an artist? The definition of an artist is different to everyone. To some, the word artist is taken as its literal meaning: someone who, quite simply, practices a creative profession. Others see it as a person who uses their creative energy and unleashes it for others to enjoy. To me, the true artist is someone who is able to control their creativity and use it to contribute to the greater good.…

What does theatre mean to me? As I review the questions provided for me to include in my goal statement, I feel lucky to express how theatre is unique to me and how I structure my everyday life around the dramatic arts. Anytime I act, I relish in the opportunity to be a leader, to help people, and to accomplish my actions with confidence. I started off with this philosophy at an early age and have not forgotten about it since. In my opinion, acting is not solely about the individual’s performance, but about how an individual actor can use their confidence and passion to impact other actors, enhance a production, and inspire the audience.…

My unique high school experience has made me who I am today in the way it has molded me into a greater leader and student than I ever imagined I could be. Upon my entrance into high school I really had no clue who I was as a person and the amount of potential I had. I hardly knew anyone but my peers and teachers were so supportive and helpful it was almost hard to not prosper; I was able to learn how to convey my ideas within group settings in order to set plans in motion, and make the school a better place. I learned how to handle stress from classes, clubs, and work all while maintaining excellent grades and test scores and I believe these things have helped me learn that nothing is impossible and hard work seriously pays off. If I had not…
