I wondered if I had made the right choice to go to public school my Junior year of high school. I had been homeschooled since I was in preschool and to me, homeschooling was normal, comfortable, natural, secure. I had friends, was involved in band and activities. But part of me wanted to experience something new. I wanted to challenge myself and see how I compared musically and academically to my peers. Try to backwards march for 10 minutes and you’ll understand. I remember the first day of marching band camp. It was all day Saturday and when lunch hour came, I honestly thought about going outside or roaming the halls to avoid the situation. Yet, I didn’t. Instead, I stuck my neck out, asked to sit with a group of marching band geeks I didn’t know.
