High School Involvement Analysis

All throughout high school I’ve enjoyed being a very involved student. I found school involvement to be one of my hobbies, since that was what I did for the most of my time. Joining organizations helped me develop new skills and abilities, and as a person who enjoys gaining new knowledge, I began looking for ways to maximize my learning. If I found an activity or club that would push me to take risks and discover new opportunities, I would attempt to join it. When I wasn’t at school practicing or serving others, I was at home creating art. I enjoyed fine arts just as much as school involvement, so I picked up this hobby as a creative outlet.
Immediately after entering high school I joined the Color Guard and Winter Guard, the Family, Career, Community Leaders of America(FCCLA), the JROTC, Cross Country, Varsity Mariachi, and the University Interscholastic League competitions (UIL). This was solely my freshman year, and as the years passed, I began joining more groups. Some of these groups were seasonal and less time consuming than others, so I was able to manage my time and join a couple other groups. For instance, I also joined the Varsity Cheer Squad, the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), the

I found comfort in placing what I felt on my mind into a blank canvas or a white sheet of paper. This eventually led to me branching out in the art spectrum and begin trying special effects makeup. Somewhere along the way, I also picked up the interest for playing the ukulele. Fine arts were already a major part of my life since I did play the violin in Mariachi and performed for color guard and winter guard. My sister was gifted a ukelele in 2016 and I randomly picked it up one day. To her surprise, I have not put down the ukelele for more than a day. Even if I’m not playing a song or working on technique, I like to pick up the ukelele every once in a while just to feel the vibrations from the senseless

In addition, I am diligent in my participation in social activities. I am involved in many honors societies and clubs that prioritize social involvement and enthusiasm to the field it focuses on such as National Honors Society, Drama Club/ Thespian Honors Society, National Dance Honors Society and Tri M Music Honors Society. As a member of the Art Club, I make art with others for both personal enjoyment and promotion of school-wide events. Originally, I had joined art club to become friends with people who shared my hobbies, but throughout my years as a member, my goals have begun to include making sure members don’t let their self-confidence impede their creativity as well as making sure they don’t go hungry. After spending nearly four years attending weekly meetings and creating art, I’ve learned that certain hobbies aren’t restricted to specific types of people. With all the stereotypes regarding artists, I had first assumed everybody in the Art Club would be carbon copies of those same stereotypes. Yet, as I spent time there and saw people join and leave, I…

An abundance of people appreciate the arts, whether it be the performing, visual or theatrical areas, on the other hand, I love them. My passion being the visual arts. Instead of writing and spelling at five years old, I was drawing, painting mixing colors and forming shapes not realizing the capableness of my techniques for such a young aged child. Because drawing was the only thing I fancied, every one figured it was “a phase I was going through and would grow out of it”. It never happened.…

Many students tend to join extracurriculars their friends join. Rather than picking the club that describes them as who they are, they drift towards activities that have more members or “look good” on college applications. When I was a freshman, I joined eleven clubs, signing up for whichever clubs my friends told me to. My email was filled with the dates of club meetings I could not recall joining. As the year progressed and I realized which clubs I had a passion for.…

High school is a lot like an epic novel. We are each the hero of our story, and during that story we face challenges that make us consider who we want to be. I have worked very hard to write a 4 year journey into a two page essay. Through the journey of high school my interests, activities, work, personal circumstances, reasons for attending college, and future aspirations have been the core elements to my personal novel. I hope that through the Hagan scholarship I will be able to add the chapters about college without the never ending battle against student loans.…

Throughout high school, I was never the kid who got out of their comfort zone. I went about my entire four years talking to the same group of friends and only focused on getting good grades. This has come to be one of my biggest regrets. Looking back, I wish I had gotten involved in clubs around campus and even sought out leadership positions in these clubs to not only develop my leadership skills, but also make important connections with my peers. At the time, I didn’t realize the importance of getting involved.…

Based off of my involvement in high school, the advice I would give to a middle schooler would be geared towards the kids who struggle with school. Simply, because I was that student who struggled with school all his life. The most unbiased advice I can give such middle schooler is to surround yourself with people who want to be successful in life and in school. Such people will push you to become a better character without you even knowing it and who you surround yourself with molds you. Don’t let your past determine your future because if your past was bad it’s only temporary whereas you still have a future to look forward to.…

One of the best experiences in life is going through the formative years during the high school stage. There are a lot of fond and memorable times during high school that one wishes this stage could last forever. One of the things that make this phase such a remarkable time in one 's life is the sweet times that one experiences with their high school sweetheart. That is why it becomes quite a challenge for high school graduates to keep their relationships going when they get admitted to college. The college life brings a reality that a person and their loved one are highly unlikely to attend the same college and, in most cases, they will be separated by getting admitted to far flung institutions.…

“For very young children, making art -- or just talking about it- provides opportunities to learn words for colors, shapes, and actions” (Lynch). It is vital for a child to learn the importance of art early in their life so that they can choose whether or not they will be dedicated to pursue a career involving art skills. Learning about these basic forms of art at an early age gives children more insight in preparation for their educational life. “Although some may regard art education as a luxury, simple creative activities are some of the building blocks of child development” (Lynch). Students involved in simple creative activities within their peers can affect their emotional status and gives a more comforting feeling being around others that have similar qualities of enjoyment.…
