High School History Class Analysis

Throughout this semester I feel I have learned a lot about history. I feel i've learned more in this class than I did in my high school history classes. Some things I really enjoyed about this class would be the format of this class I liked your lectures and I found taking notes to be very helpful especially when it was time to take a test. I enjoy how you structured your lectures according to when the events took place I think going in order according to time makes it easier to remember. I think when you write the topics and outline of your lecture on the board and then talk about it is helpful because it makes it easy to follow along with what you're talking about. It also helps us keep our notes organized. I have never had a class where you have open book/note tests so this …show more content…
I feel the participation point policy is doable, however I think maybe you should set a due date in the middle of the semester to have fifty points done so that it will make your life easier and also so students aren't trying to get all their papers in last minute before the semester ends. The only complaint I have about this class is the midterm and possibly the final I feel the content on the midterm was good but the length was a bit overwhelming. Your weekly test is only twenty questions so one hundred questions is a lot. I normally do well on the weekly test you give us, but I didn't do well on the midterm because halfway through the midterm I became overwhelmed and had a hard time concentrating. I think maybe fifty or no more than seventy-five questions would be better or maybe break the test up into two class periods if it is going to be one hundred questions. Overall, this was probably one of my favorite classes this semester I hope to take some of your other classes in the future. Thanks for making this class fun and

Brookes claims, “Persecution breeds heroes” and defends Constantine’s conversion based on “the establishment.” Although Constantine at first held tight as a pagan priest, he appeared to favor Christians when he ordered it a capital crime to worship idols. Compare the expansion of existing colonies and the establishment of new types of colonies and transoceanic empires between the British and one of the other countries you have studied about in this section. Answer: 1. British: The British, during the age of imperialism, wanted to expand their grasp beyond just India and into Africa. In Africa, the British had quite a bit of trouble colonizing the area because of several factors, first of all, when the British entered Africa, they met a barrage of diseases such as Yellow fever, Sleeping sickness, and Malaria, all of which the native Africans had developed an immunity to over the past several millennia, however these diseases were entirely new to the British and they suffered quite a bit.…

    1. Sugar was very important to the people at this time and changed everyday life completely due to its economic and dietary importance. Throughout the years’ sugar became cheaper and available to people in the middle class as well as poor people, because of its availability the symbol of sugar declined or power. “As for sugar, it was transformed from a luxury of kings into kingly luxury of commoners-a purchased luxury that could be detached from one status and transferred in use to another” (Mintz, 96). This quote explains how sugar became useful to everyone because there were large quantities of it.…

It seems to be a universal truth that as long as events continue to transpire and history continues to be made, we, as humans, will never stop trying to figure out why these particular stories ended the way that they did. There will always be those who dare to ask why our world has unraveled in the way that it has, and wonder what our lives might have been like had things ended differently than what we know. While these questions don’t necessarily have answers, the theories that are formed in an attempt to find them are the very things that keep us conscious of our past, and thus, considerate of our present and future. One of the larger events in our history that evokes the most thought and inquiry is the Civil War, in which our nations division caused the bloodiest war…

I decided to enroll in AP Government and Economics it is the class that has the most utility for me. Starting towards the middle of freshman year in Honors Global History, I thought going into a higher history class was a good idea, so I decided to enroll in AP US History, which was one of the better decisions in my life. That class was a good experience so I wanted to take AP again in junior year. There are multiple benefits that drove me to make this decision; the first is content. In every single class in school (maybe except for math), I want to learn the most about that subject so AP would provide the huge benefit of having the most content so I would learn the most about the government and macroeconomics.…

Throughout my time in high school I have taken AP US History, AP Government, AP Lang and AP World. I definitely enjoyed AP Government and AP World the most out of those classes which I'm pretty sure have contributed to my interest in International relations. Learning about factors that contributed to major events in history like World War 1, World War 2, The Opium Wars, Spheres of influence through imperialism and colonization of land throughout the world have all been extremely interesting. Learning about how these events shaped history helps me to understand current global events. Trends like economic competition, militarism and immigration are still seen in the world today.…

In History “In History”, by Jamaica Kincaid, weaves together the stories of Christopher Columbus, George Clifford, and Carl Linnaeus so that the reader may understand why the author is questioning her own history and those who are like her. Kincaid questions us, “What is History? Is it a Theory? Is it an Ideal” She answers these questions through the stories of these three men as they come across and label foreign people, lands, or plants. Kincaid implies that the act of identifying and labeling unfamiliar with familiar terms are taken from these men 's subjective lives.…

It feels like so long ago when I first began this English course. I can remember being so excited about the class topic, racism and social justice, which I felt that I had a lot of passion for. Little did I know that I would have to gather up even more enthusiasm and passion to be able to continue writing papers about the same topic all semester long. This course has tested my endurance, and at many times my patience, and for that I am thankful because I know in the end, it has made me a better writer. Despite various minor challenges this semester I believe that I have put in the hard work that it takes and I have achieved the course goals and will complete this class feeling fulfilled and accomplished.…

As someone with a major largely based on science, I have found myself sometimes wondering why it is important to take a history course in college. However, as my time in History 101 comes to an end I have come to understand how beneficial it is. This course helps to remind us where everything once started and how far it has come. It teaches what worked and did not work for society so we may learn what to do to make the present and future more prosperous.…

When most people think of a history class they imagine sitting in a dark lecture hall taking notes off a PowerPoint presentation, memorizing a few dates and people, repeating it on the test. Truly studying history, I learned, is more than memorization of a previously told story and accepting it as true. In this class I have learned history is about actively engaging the material, picking apart the details and nuances, creating and using timelines, finding deeper meaning in the material, asking questions, then looking again and digging deeper. It is not a passive study and not about memorization as I believed at the beginning of the semester. History is about asking questions and looking for answers, not just accepting what is already there, but…

Throughout this course we have not only gained factual knowledge about East Asia but also a framework that we can use to understand other countries and cultures around the world. To consider ourselves global citizens, we must have an understanding of the world and the way it works. From learning about the history of East Asia, we now have a better understanding of why it works the way it does today, and that makes us less ethnocentric and more empathetic toward others. This course has allowed me the opportunity to grow more as a global citizen, and to see where I have achieved and failed at pushing to see beyond myself and be a more inclusive person. Asides from the overt growth of knowledge about East Asian and its history, I have also gained an appreciation for the past and understanding that we cannot always believe what has been told and retold throughout history.…

Knowledge is endless and I 'm lucky to be able to say I only know such a small percent but continue to find out more each day. This class has really been intriguing to me, because I am able to learn outside of class and there are so many resources available. I love reading the assigned articles, watching the videos, and exploring the websites. I 'm going to do this essay a little different than the last and write in categories and what I learned in each. I 'm going to start with the articles, then the book, and then the videos, each having something important to say or to point out.…
