High school graduation is the best feeling in the world for students, but it all changes when it comes to choosing what career to follow. When it comes to deciding which career path to follow students are forced to choose one or suffer spending their time doing nothing. One of the biggest choice for these undecided scholars is to go into the medical field, or more specific nursing. With everyone choosing nursing, there are those few students who want an easier program to follow but also want to stay in the medical field; students then choose dental assisting. Dental assistants have always been seen as the nurses in the dental field, but in fact dental assistants come nowhere near nurses; therefore, students who are undecided, it is a wise choice

Students who take the pre-requisites for the dental assisting program are forced to take lower level classes that do not really challenge them. As stated by Decker, “Typically it takes one to two years for dental assistants to become certified (How Long Does it Take to Get Certified As a Dental Assistant?”.) The small amount of time that it takes to get certified leads students to choose this path. A problem with this is that with such little time, only so much can be learned. When this path is chosen the students then have to find a way to pay off the overpriced school in just a few weeks. On the other hand, the nursing pre-requisites take longer, but have more challenging classes to help students learn more. The nursing students spend more time in school but learn all the essentials that are required for the job. Once they finish with school they are almost never going to have to return to school for any reason. So once the students are done and have their degree, they can finally say good bye to school and all its homework. When moving up or getting promoted with dental assistants it all depends the type of knowledge that they possess. There are different types of offices that they can move to, but in reality it is going to be the same thing anywhere. If dental assistants do not know what the office manager or dentist want the assistants to know then no promotion is offered. For dental assistants if they want to move up in the field they have to go back to school and learn everything that nurses have already learned. Dental assistants might have an easy job but it is not worth all the time spent where it could have been spent on other classes. Unlike dental assistants, nurses have it easy, since they know majority of the material that they can branch out to any of the other positions. Since nurses studied the whole body when in school it is easy to move positions since most of the new knowledge would be more hands on than going back to school and learning it all over again. Nurses can choose anything the hospital offers or if they want a nice calm schedule they can work at a private office. When nurses have been in the filed long enough doors can be opened to almost any job, since every job is always looking for applicant with the most experience in the
