On a daily basis people may contemplate if high school is for them. One may agree that attending school could make one smarter and more likely to succeed, while others may come to an agreement that it is a waste of time. Marcotte and Hemelt, authors in an analysis and management journal, shared a thought that people have towards exit exams which states, “… imposing additional requirements will lead to higher rates of failure and dropout...” (Marcotte 324). If these exams are used as dissuasion to students and educators do not support failure, then there would be no primary purpose to high-stake testing. Ways for schools to help decrease their HSEEs dropout rate is by beginning to test students in elementary school. These tests could be given following a completion of grade solely to prep them for the future. Results from these tests can also help administration see what needs to change or remain within each grade
