The Calvin Knights football team has been undefeated since 1876. How is this spectacular feat possible? It has to do with the fact that Calvin does not actually have a football team. And I for one believe it should stay that way. Despite the many fans at Calvin who crave one of America’s favorite pastimes, Calvin has yet to assemble a team.…

In the court case that the NFL was brought into, the NFL decided to switch to an electronic database, to show that they are and will pay attention to head injuries. The database that is being used by the NFL was provided by Westborough based eClinicalWorks (Kotz). This will help study long term injuries to the head, because now the NFL has the power to keep all the records in the database. Another way that this database will help with long-term injuries is the studying of dementia (Kotz). Dementia is common throughout retired professional football players, and can now be studied furthermore because of the result of the new database.…

He’s arguably the best in the game on using his physicality and radius on fades in the endzone. He’s also capable of burning a corner man-to-man, which is why defenses roll an extra defensive back where he’s lined up. If defenses are going to bring their safeties up, it will put them in a risky situation to get torched by the deep ball. Without Bryant’s presence, defenses have been loading up the box with 8 to 9 defenders, outnumbering Dallas’ offensive line to mitigate running lanes for running backs Joseph Randle, Darren McFadden and Christine Michael, who’s now part of the committee with Lance Dunbar (ACL, MCL) done for the…

Shelton Gibson has to rank among the fastest wide receivers in West Virginia University history, so when he posted a 4.5 clocking in the 40-yard dash earlier this month at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis something seemed a little off. “A lot of teams were telling me they were glad I posted a 4.5. Case 1: Case Study the Football Star’s Fictitious Girlfriend The first case study I chose from the book was the “Case Study the Football Star’s Fictitious Girlfriend” from chapter 12. The case explains the situation of Manti Te’o, Notre Dame University's linebacker in 2012 and his Stanford graduate girlfriend, Lennay Kekua who was reported to be involved in a car accident, and later diagnosed with leukemia. Days after learning that his girlfriend and grandmother died, the then linebacker accomplished a dozen tackles in Notre Dames game against Michigan State on September 15, 2012, where the score was 20-3. Many sportswriters were infatuated with the story of Te’o and his girlfriend, and there were plenty of articles regarding the relationship.…

The NFL has not effectively managed the concussion crisis because they did not alert players nor the public immediately upon research findings that football had a link to brain injuries. It was in October 1999 “The NFL Retirement Board rules that Mike Webster’s head injuries from his years playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Kansas City Chiefs left him “totally and permanently” disabled as “the result of head injuries he suffered as a football player.” “. (Ezell, 2013) The NFL’s own retirement board conducted research which lead to the correlation of Mike Webster playing football for 17 years and his now permanent and disabling brain damage and refused to release this information to the public until 2009.…

I had just entered my junior year in high school and was back to playing football, my grades were good so far and my A.D.D. medication was helping me a lot. Zach and I had just arrived at the union school for a junior varsity game against Oceanside high school, we geared up and got ready for the game. I started the game at quarterback and the game wasn't going well for us, which didn't come as a surprise because jv games are never enjoyable. I took the snap and rolled out to the left side of the field, no one was open so I tucked the ball under my arm and started to run up field, I had room to move, suddenly a linebacker running at me from my side started to shorten up his steps and set himself for a tackle, he tackled low but I…

I was never a sporty kid. For the majority of my childhood, my hobbies have included reading, playing video games, and other generic nerd activities. If you had asked me if I wanted to play a sport, I would have laughed at the prospect, so I surprised even myself when I answered yes to my mother’s inquiry about joining my school’s new flag football team. I worried about it for the weeks leading up to the first practice, but eventually I decided “Why not? It may end up being fun.”…
