In an effort to persuade my skeptical parents that a “gap year” between high school graduation and college would be beneficial, establishing ethos would be imperative. In order to do this I would present myself as mature, use sophisticated vocabulary, and make certain that I am prepared to speak knowledgably about the subject and provide reasons as to why this gap year would be beneficial. If establishing ethos was not enough to persuade my parents, I would attempt to appeal to logos and pathos. I would provide statistics on students who had taken a gap year and their academic performance to appeal to logos.
